Reminds me of a story I saw recently about so-called sonic weapons:

One such device – the ‘squawk box’ – blasts two slightly different, intolerably high-pitched ultrasound frequencies (16,000Hz and 16,002Hz) at rioters; the two, when combined in the ear, effectively produce the frequencies 32,002Hz and 2Hz. The result, as one commentator put it, is to create in the rioters "a compelling wish to be somewhere else".

Seems like the future doesn't it? Weapons that don't kill, just incapacitate or confuse the heck out of the target.

these weapons have been around awhile its a matter of makin them small enuff and the targetin systems.

They just need to make sure they can set them to a rotating modulation for when the Borg come, though we will still be only able to fire 12 shots at most.

Fire the "directed-energy weapons"

From all the doco's and stuff i've seen on this sort of thing they said we would be seeing this sort of stuff emerge around 2010 and it seems they may just be right.

Also check out the poll on the page and see how many people voted in favor of having lasers deployed in millitary usage.

erm... so the geneva convention says that we can't use lasers to blind someone, but however we can burn them to a crisp with one? cool! :)

Blinding someone is inhumane but killing them isn't.
Much like using projectiles that have a high chance to cause painful inhumane wounds is a no no but using ones that have a higher chance to kill isn't... or so they say *rolls eyes*.

Killing and war is an ugly business no matter how you go about it, the rules for prisoners and civilian detainees and such are much more useful I think than the ones about what you can actually use when your out there shooting at each other.

There isn't a nice way to die when your life is cut short by another.
