Need someone who will insure <25 y.o. male with a modified car for a 5L v8.
Only basic modifications (engine swap + exhaust :P - lowered and tinted windows, nothing else). If it helps, the engine was swapped from a 6cyl to 8cyl but the car was manufactured with the v8's in, and the car is identical in every way to the factory v8 [brakes/engine/etc.]. Throw out names of insurers you know that will insure me and ones that aren't dodgy. (going to try AAMI's JustCars branch tomorrow) Ready, set, GO. Winner wins spoot. |

why don't you just get an online quote, nearly every major insurance company has one...

basically im paying 1200 bucks a year for full comp insurance with just cars. was with them when i had my old soarer, and paid 600 bucks a year 3rd party/fire/theft.
shannons were overpriced, young and cool were overpriced, and some of the other small time insurers didnt want to go near me even though i havent had a claim in 5 years of driving. Just cars gave me a rating 2, for being 4 years driving without a claim. I was 3 months away from getting a rating 1, but now i have to wait a year, which isnt that bad. plus its easy to call em up and list new mods, and it hardly affects the premium at all. I would reccomend everyone that has an import/worked car and is under 25 to go with just cars, 3 years and its been awesome. so yeah. |

Just Cars has good premiums, but a crappy excess (if you're under 25).
You could try Shannons but they don't often insure under 25's. |

mkiii no online insurer will work for me (just says sorry - can't evaluate).
Most -normal- insurance companies won't touch me simply because it's the engine swap. They say if I bought the car with the v8, they would insure me, but since it was swapped in, they won't, even if the two cars were identical. Go Figure, it's retarded. Tung/Orbs thanks - what's the excess like on Just Cars, can't be as bad as RACQ which consider my car (even with the lamo 6 cyl) a "high performance vehicle" and charge an excess of $2000. $600 a year fire and theft is also pretty exxy, but I spose to have insurance it's not too bad, plus I make enough these days for that to not be a great concern. So Just Cars seems like the goer so far. |

I think the excess will be ~$1700 with Just Cars, but you're better off ringing them to find out for sure.
Regardless I think JCI will be your best bet. |

that 600 was when i was on a rating 4.
they also said 2700 for full comp on rating 4. so id assume it would be somewhere around 300 for 3rd party/fire/theft if i insured it now on a rating 2 |

$1700 is fine. $1400 would be even better :)
I'd call up and find out but it's not quite 9 yet :) Full comp isn't too much of an issue since my car can be written off too easily (although you could rebuild the thing for the expense of a new cars front bumper, insurance companies and their panel beaters dont have the time to chase around parts). Thanks guys, will give them a go and hopefully they will insure me. last edited by Loki at 09:43:38 19/Dec/05 |

Yep just cars were the only ones that would do mine. I even tried a broker who prided themselves on getting insurance on hard to insure things....they never called back. My car has a engine and transmission conversion aswell. Plus it's an import (even though you can get the exact car over here). Exhaust, suspension and I'm 21. So everything an insurer dosn't want to hear. They put me on rating 2 and I pay about $750 a year for full comp.

Yeah i find it completely retarded that if you do an engine swap they won't insure you, but if the car came with the identical brakes/engine etc. they will.
Goin to give em a call now and just enquire, I still have a bit to go before my car is driveable again. (like.. getting an engine into it for a start, currently has nothing under there as I ripped the 6 cyl out yesterday ^_^ ) |

Ok I called Just Cars, wow, they are absolutely awesome and the lil dudette on the other end was really helpful.
Insurance is $400 p.a. for 3rd party + fire and theft. Insure the car for $5k (would be more but I had no idea what i've spent in mods including the engine swap, so just went with $5k - my current insurer only insures my car for $2k). If an uninsured party hits me - they pay me $3k to help fix my car. They don't care about my mods [and can have unlimited mods] as long as it's registered (and thus legal/roadworthy). Excess is $750 in an accident (current insurer is over $2k), and $700 for the missus. Up to $5mil accident coverage. Definately will be going with them so far. |

Tung: didn't bother asking about full comp since my car would be written off too fast for the $$$ to be worth it.
( atiny ding that I could fix for $50 they'd probably write off) |
