hey, recently ive been having a problem with my ram.. I have 1x "mushkin" 512ddr stick, and 2x corsair 256ddr sticks. I cannot get all 3 to work together.. i can put the 2 corsair together and it works but if i add the 512 it wont detect it. But if i run 1x 512ddr and 1x 256ddr it works.

It's really weird because it used to work fine, but it just stopped one day and i couldn't fix it. I'm leaning towards a dead ram slot?

Motherboard is abit-nf7s v2.0

Thanks in advance.

Try 1 stick in all slots ... if it works in 2 and not the other you might be right.
Also when you find a slot that doesnt seemingly work try all three sticks in it and if one works leave it there and try the other 2 on the other slots.

Well the obvious questions are...

1) Are you 100% sure all sticks are functioning properly?
2) Have you tried a single known working stick in each of the ramslots with success to test each slot?

I would try each stick in the first slot with memtest86 to ensure they have no faults, once you have done that you can cross them off as actually being faulty. Same deal for each slot, just run a single stick in each slot with memtest.

Possibilities... hrm if you are running the 2 x 256's in dual channel mode, ie each stick on their own channel generally slot 1 and 3, but it can differ from board to board, maybe it is ignoring the 512 stick. It shouldn't but computers can be like that.

Try running the 256's next to each other and the 512 in the other bank.

Failing that I'd just keep trying different ram in slot combinations to see if anything suddenly worked.

There is a good chance a ramslot could have died/be in the process of dying. Happened to my dads Abit KR7A, sometimes the ram would show up sometimes it wouldn't.

Yeah thats basically whats happened to me when I was running mixed ram as well.
Plus sometimes the computer for some reason would randomly decide that a certain stick wasn't allowed to work in a certain slot anymore and I had to move them around till I found a combination that worked again.

Odd little problem that one but i'm glad to have gone with the same brand/speed ram in all slots again.

I tried all the ram sticks in the seemingly dead slot and none worked. And if i ran 1 stick in the dead slot and 1 in the other, it wouldn't boot.

I was sorta thinking it could have been duel channel mode screwing it up.. is there a way to turn it off?

Possibly have a look in the BIOS, not too sure on that one. Generally it just autodetects it if you have 2 or 4(i think) equal sized sticks in different channels.

So if you are running 3 it SHOULD detect 3 and disable DC cause it cannot work with an odd number of ram sticks.

However if you can't get a single stick of any of the 3 you have to work in the suspect slot I would say you have your answer right there.
