Hey guys just after some info about this..

I got a 512 stick of DDR 333 ram, and a stick of DDR 400 ram.

my CPU is overclocked so that the FSB is at 200(400) mhz. so basically the DDR 400 is running at stock speed, and the ddr 333 is overclocked a bit.

iv noticed since i put the new stick of ddr 400 in, imgetting weird artefacts that will flash up on the screen for a split second, then disapear.

i am also getting alot of WoW critical errors..

any ideas? is there a way to test this?

the CPU is a athlon 2500xp (1.80ghz) overclocked to 2.2ghz

both sticks of ram are kingston, on an abit nf7s-2 board

Your mobo was forcing ram speeds down to 333 automaticly, now you put ddr 400 stick its picks it up and overclocking the 333 stick, id say force the fsb to 333 in bios to fix your issues mate.

DDR 333 + DDR 400 = existence is n00b.

Remove the overclock then all your problems will be solved.

Also slow the ram to 333.

Nah, i had my FSB/DRAM ratio set to 1:1, and my fsb was at 400. my 333ram was running at 400mhz the whole time.

so i chuck in a new ddr 400 stick, and i figure to myself, since the other one is already over clocked, and the setting is to 400mhz, and this IS a 400mhz stick.. why wouldn't it work?

capto, are you saying to take the overclock off my CPU, or ram, or both

hi-jack thread
just want to check something i got 2x 256 kingston 3200ddr it came as a value set. i want to get another 512 ram does it make any difference getting 1 512 stick or another set of 2x 256 kingston.
also is mixing generic and brand bad i always thought it was and as ive never really had any problems with my rig i guess i should fork out the extra 20-30 for brand name.

Are you trying to run them in dual or single channel mode? I'd say change the banks they are in (swap em with each other) and play with the memory timings a bit (slow them down). See if that helps.

Could be a few other things... Even though they are the same brand could be causing timing conflicts (especially if you try and run them in dual channel). Adding a second stick also introduces a tiny amount of overhead and it could cause your overclocked stick to fail if it's on the ragged edge.

EDIT: Thinking about it now, is your two sticks rated at the same timings? If not, you could find that the DDR400 stick probably has a better rated timing and is overclocking the timings on the DDR333 stick as well as the frequency. Check the timings...

Mad-Cow, if you aren't overclocking your RAM then it shouldn't really matter what you put in as long as it is compatible with your motherboard.

dysard is right

if you run the ram in dual channel, u cant clock it as high (but the benefits of dual channel far outwiegh the benefits of faster ram).

loosen your memory timings and give your DIMM voltage a bit of a boost. that might help stable things up.

else the best solution is to spend $75 and buy a DDR400 512 stick to match your other one.

hehe i should learn to read huh? :P
Swap the sticks around, see if that fixes it, also run memtest with just the new 400mhz stick might be dodgey.

Memtest

if its fine then lower fsb to 333, if that dosent fix it then i have nfi.
