I've been listening to this album pretty solidly for the last week or so, I'm really liking it. It has hints of 80's pop music throughout the album imo, i thought it sounded pretty odd at first but im getting into it. It don't think it's as good previous material they're released but i can't blame them because they had a lot to live up to. I'm happy enough with this album.
Biggest disapointment with the album is the fact that theres no instumentals on it, NIN have done amongst the best intsrumentals I've ever heard and I think this is the first time they haven't put an intrumental on an album since Pretty Hate Machine (that doesn't include remix albums because they're not proper albums imo). One of the other things I noticed about the album thats a bit of let down over previous albums is the fact that for example The Downward Spiral and The Fragile each had a defining sound to the album, a sound that was used in various places throughout the album to give familiarity to the album as a whole, there doesn't seem to anything like that on this album. All the songs seem pretty seperated from each other. Just my 2cents. |

Quite frankly I think it blows. Very few of the the songs are catchy or memorable at all.
'Only' is pretty good though, particularly the verses. |

Yeah, I agree with sacred, nothing really leaps out at me from the album as memorable, and I've listened to it at least 4 or 5 times now. Its not horribly bad, I dont hate it, but its not really much of an album. Its filler that I dont mind having in my playlist, but dont go out of my way to listen to.
Even after 1 or 2 listens there were songs on the Fragile, and Pretty Hate Machine (never much liked Downward Spiral) that stood out and stuck in my head and made me want to listen more. Theres nothing like that on With Teeth for me, I doubt I could even tell you the names of more than 1 or 2 songs on the album, let alone remember how they go. |

After listening to it quite a bit now I think I'll have to agree with most of your comments. I think it will still grow on me more but I'm a bit dissapointed. Trent hinted on their website that there will be another album released reasonably quickly. Dunno what that really means but if it's within a year maybe it will help complete this one. Can only hope.
At least the new album means they're touring and, hopefully, will eventually get to oz. I reackon a number of the new songs will be better live. last edited by Eclipsor at 10:20:17 29/Apr/05 |
