Personally I think its only a matter of time before they shorten the game even more. I guess it pulls the crowds as people who dont like cricket can stand only a few hours.
Entertainment ++ Even though I enjoy watching the 5 day version.

It would probably be successfull domestically, and might attract more crowds than one dayers. However I can't see the point for it internationally, as one dayers are already entertaining and attack oriented. I guess it has potential in the evening, prior to going out perhaps..

I was thinking the same thing Spook. Sounds very like indoor.

Makes me wonder though, if they start that will they ditch one dayers altogether or play a Twenty20 comp as well?

And aren't a lot of cricketers already complaining about too much strain from the amount of cricket they play? So you'd think they'd have to ditch one day matches if they were going to bring it in :(

England County cricket just had a series of 20twenty Bichel was the #5 BATSMAN in the series, scored 250 off runs in 4~5 innings (part of the reason for him being upped in the batting order for the bulls on the weekend). Symonds slaughtered a 100 off 34 balls as well.

First Aust 20twenty is boxing day next year vs NZ in new zealand.

i'm prolly gonna fly over for it, gonna be unreal!

p.s. if any of this is covered in the url I didn't click on it!

define stumped.

if a fast bowler is bowling and the keeper runs the batsman out it's classed as stumped and the bowler is awarded the wicket. (this is the only way a bowler can get a wicket off a no-ball) This can happen on a no-ball, it just can't happen if the keeper is standing up to the stumps.

as far as I know, you cannot be run-out off a no-ball by someone at short-leg or silly-point either, I think it has something to do with proximity to the batsman and popping crease.

Found this site. Seems pretty solid.

Stumped:
If a batsman misses the ball and in attempting to play it steps outside his crease, he is out stumped if the wicket-keeper gathers the ball and breaks the wicket with it before the batsman can ground part of his body or his bat behind his crease.
Is how they define stumped. It would be impossible to get out this way to a fast bowler unless it was on purpose. If the keeper throws down the stumps and you're out of your crease from a quick bowler, you're run out not stumped.

In regards to the no ball rule-

The batsman may play and score runs as usual, and may not be out by any means except run out, handle the ball, hit the ball twice, or obstructing the field. Further, if the batsman does not score any runs from the ball, one run is added to the batting team's score. Also, the bowler must bowl an extra ball in his over to compensate. A no ball is also called if any part of the bowler's back foot is not within the area between the return creases.

I've had this argument with tung before, except I mistakingly said you could be stumped off a no-ball and was proven wrong by him.

define 'breaking the wicket'. Throwing down the stumps would be considered 'breaking the wicket'.

Like I said, I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know a dismissal by the keeper when the batsman is out of his ground is classed as stumped, whether the keepr is keeping up to the stumps or not.

If the keeper isn't up to the stumps, it is run-out.

Actually as I understand it, it means they get an extra ball that they can't get out on. The idea being a front foot no-ball from a pace bowler is quite possibly unhittable so they get no benefit from it. This way the next ball is effectively a no ball as well and they can take a wild swing at it without worrying about getting bowled/caught.

good, then it won't take up valuable tv space where they could be showing decent programs. but I fear it will only be taken up by reality tv or some other gay form of aus idol

Yeah Skrybe is right - if a bowler bowls a a no ball, they can only get out in the normal no ball fashion, and get 2 runs for it. The very next ball, the batsmen essentially gets a free ball where he can take a swing without worrying about being dismissed. Bowlers tend to throw in a yorker on this one to minimise the damage the batsman could do.

I reckon it's a great idea, and I'd like to see it introduced in some sort of social/local scenario. Sometimes indoor is a little too restrictive, and a full outdoor game can take up a lot of time, so this might be more suitable for some people.
