My flatmate just got a new 120gighdd. Basically copying everything over and doing a reformat.
He doesn't remember his dialup password as it was the generic one that optus setup. We cannot log into optusnet website and change it because you have to log in with the password and username. Is there a way to get the password at all? From Regedit or anything like that? Or just call optus and do it over the phone? |

easiest to call them i'd say. not sure where it'd be stored in clear text on the system.
edit: upon googling, maybe try giving this a shot. last edited by Nailbomb at 15:44:29 29/May/04 |

He's using Windows I'm guessing...try downloading ethereral (and libpcap). It's a packet sniffer. Assuming that it's able to sniff ppp traffic by now, use it to see what gets sent when he connects.

if he can still get to a login screen where the password is kept but with the dots hiding it there are programs out there that can give you what the hidden text actually is.

Most ISPs can't give you your login password - but they can generate a new one. Done as a security measure.

Assuming that it's able to sniff ppp traffic by now, use it to see what gets sent when he connects Optus would be using access servers, so they would be using CHAP, in which case the password isn't sent in plain text. |

Well if he copied everything over from the previous harddrive, then if he has POP3 email setup with Optus he can try to sniff the traffic when he fetches his email.
