Hey guys. Just out of curiousity, i'm having some really bad bigpond issues that have been going on for a month and i just wanna see if i'm the only one.
Here's the lowdown, please take as second to read this cause i'm desperate to know if i'm the only one. I get drop outs every 10 minutes or so. then it comes back in about 5 minutes. It doesn't always happen, some days it wont happen at all, some days it happens constantly, some days it just happens every half our or so. It's been happening for over a month now. I've had tech support out to my house twice. I have tested my connection with a different PC and a different cable modem even, and the problem still occurs. Telstra refuses to send a guy out to examine their network because I have an older motorolla modem and that apparently means they can't detect dropouts and therefore they don't have proof that anything is wrong with my internet without a tech guy finding something wrong. to make matters worse it is rarely severe in the morning when the tech guys come to check it out, so i'm like f***ed, I have no way of making them see the problem, and they wont delve deep enough to find it until they have seen it for themselves. and I don't like the chances of them sending out a tech guy to sit in my bedroom and watch my play cs for a whole day and night in case the problem occurs so he can SEE IT FOR HIMSELF! argh, i'm going nuts. I live in Auchenflower, that's near milton, toowoong, padington, bardon.... that kind of area. Anyone else live in my area and has this problem or just has it at all?!?!? i'm out of ideas. |

apart from the early days of cable (like when it was first available in brisbane) i've never had any problems either, and then all of a sudden this. it's driving me insane, it's so frustrating, and it always happens when I most want to use it and never when I don't. and it doesn't just seem like that, it's the truth!

if you have a video camera, tape the dropouts with it, set the camera up on the modem so it can see the lights. When it goes off start recording (make sure time stamping is on if you have it). Then email it to telstra or something. Least then you have proof it happens.....if you have a big enough hard drive tape the sucker all day :p

Yep, I'm having this exact same problem.
I called BPA, and they said "if its still happening in a week, call us back". Needless to say, that was a useless answer, but fortunately just after I got off the phone to them it seemed to stop doing it for a few days, and then it started up again. On Thursday of this week, it started happening again, really frequently. I gave up, called BigPond again and told them what was going on. I got a guy that had obviously heard of this problem before and he arranged for someone to come out the next day. The guy rocked up at 7am (damn him!), walked in, asked me what the problem was, and then basically said "yep, its a big problem at the moment". From what I could tell, it is affecting a lot of cable customers, at least in Queensland (not sure if it is affecting other states). Apparently there is no known fix just yet. The guy I had came in and sent off an email and made a phone call, didn't look at any of my gear. Since then it has been working fine; I'm not sure if this is as a result of anything he did or just complete coincidence. Needless to say it is very frustrating. |

interesting trog. well mine is actually fixed now.
My brother gave me his old cable modem to try instead. I have the first motorolla ones they gave out when cable was first available. My bro's is the nortel one they used for a bit before going to the current one. the guy that came this morning set my internet up with this nortel one and now it works flawlessly. that doesn't mean my motorolla one is f***ed because i had the same problem with two different motorolla ones. it just means wahtever the problem was it only affects those kinds of modems. the tech guy mentioned that there are some really severe issues with telstra at the moment that are affecting a lot of people. he said however that my problem was something he had never seen before and none of his co-workers knew what it was either. I'm lucky in that the new problem that is cropping up everywhere doesn't affect the nortel modems. so yeah, things are good for me at the moment, hope they stay that way. hwoever if your problem is the same as mine, then it's quite normal for it to work normally for up to a week but then the problem will re-occur, i hope for your sake that the problem you have isn't what i had, if it is though, get your hands on a nortel modem, get them to link it to your account and you should be fine. |
