you could always try what jim suggested in the last post about this. Setting up a proxy on your home pc and then accessing via that.

Unlucky .. .uq network was fun when i had socks server, less fun with an "unofficial" http proxy ... now unlimited adsl beats both ... although a little slower.

note: for UQ people

IRC is available...

on some computers theres putty installed (fancy telnet client)

on others, you need to type it into the start > run prompt

then go

open student.uq.edu.au

type in your l/p and then when it goes to the %student prompt... type IRC
it then turns into you're regular IRC client, but remember, proper irc syntax

that means, no /j ausgamers

its got to be /join #ausgamers etc...

You can telnet to a server called

telnet.remoteserver.org

From which you can use MSN and ICQ and even AIM if you like. I can't remember the exact sign in, but I know that there's a password of "im" for instant messenger along the way somewhere.

Also:

UQ > QUT

Because

Reputation > "Real World" learning

Says the international community.

msn v5 is working again within UQ, but if it f***s up again, search the network for a program for ccproxy, it lets u use normal msn at uq

That's what all QUTers say.

Whether QUT gives a better education or not (which is debatable) is moot. Anything unusual (which is not industry standard) you might need to learn for a job you will almost always learn on said job. A job that you get using a degree from a university with an excellent reputation. QUT still does not have this reputation, because it is old TAFE. It's a former tech college.

UQ teaches all industry standards. That's what matters.
