Just wondering... anyone play Magic the Gathering here?

And does anyone know a good place that sells Mtg or a good place where people gather and play?

PS. MTG is a trading card game that's been around for a while. I've been out of it for a few years now, but my friends in Sydney are pushing me to get back into it...

Depends on the definition of nerds... those Mtg players would probably say the same thing about we QGLers. :D

I am a nerd though whichever definition you use, and I am proud of it!

In all seriousness... mtg is a great game... but it sucks too much money. But at least there is no wallhacker or aimboters.

again depends on the definiton of nerd.

im pretty sire nerd means a person that thinks he knows, and a geek means a person in the know,

anyway dictionary.com

mtg is highly wierd, i have cousins that play it and it is so like all other fantasy card games dice and all.

Never knew there was a difference. I use the two words more or less interchangeably.

Oh well.

So I guess no one plays MTG here then?

There's a place on Adelaide street called Ace comics and games or something near JB's up some stairs, and they have people go there Thursday's after lunch till close playing. And also they have weekly tournaments there every Saturday i think.

Holy crap, I had no idea people still played that. I thought it died while I was still in school [a good five or so years ago] because it started in my early years of high school I think. Then again, every time I walk past a Games Workshop I can't believe people are still sitting there around miniature orcs and knights and what not, yelling stuff at each other about spells cast and weapons used. It's almost as bad as a CS LAN :(

There are a few people at UQ who play it (both ST Lucia and Ipswich), including two of my housemates (well three realy, but one of them hasn't bought any cards in years).

I used to play it when Arabian Nights came out, I sold my cards off for a healthy profit before all of them got phased out.

What you mean by holos? I am terrible when it comes to slang.

10/10 Levithan... you can't be serious. Who uses that? :D

Yeah... MTG apparently still very much alive. It is a great game, but it just costs too much money. Ahh... but fond memories. I remember playing the game throughout year 11 and 12, as well as the entire uni degree. Hell, I spent more days playing Magic than hours attending lectures.

I used to play it a dit in 96 but was more into the collectable side of the cards. Sold out all my cards in 99 when I needed some cash, and they started to reprint some of the more collectables. So now I only collect comics and toys, so if anyone has "GROO THE WANDERER" comics bellow issue 105 I would be interested. :)

I used to play quite a while ago. There are heaps and heaps of stores that sell booster packs, goldern casket in morningside I've noticed sells em. Plus have a look in the comic stores in the city, if you are looking for rarer cards.

Actaully on that note anyone here play rifts....?

I stopped playing a few years ago, but started again when i came to Sweden. Huge following over here and we have just started the regionals which eventually lead to the World Championship. Last year it was held in Sydney, this year in Berlin.
The biggest group that plays in Brisbane is probably still Brisbane Online http://www.brisbaneonline.com.au/
at ashgrove.

I played about 5 years ago, when I was playing I was into the tournaments and all.
Funny story actually is that when I was playing the world champ was a guy from Brisbane and turns out three years later he is serving me at his internet cafe... really great bloke, I gave him a few games when with the couple of decks I didn't throw out but he still has the ability to absolutely flog me.
He gave up once he was world champ, deciding to leave the game on a high note.
