Update: 3DGamers uploaded a incorrect version of this file rather early in the game, and alot of other mirrors then downloaded that version from there, the version that was on 3dgamers will generate version errors when joining dedicated servers, if you get this error, download the file from AusGamers, or other quality mirroring sites and reinstall.

There is a new patch just been released for Battlefield 1942, that contains significant changes to the game, loads of fixes and changes. Here are some of the server side changes:
NETWORK/SERVER FIXES
-Low close combat hit accuracy due to network lag is much improved.
-Some Server CPU usage optimizations: Multiple server instances should perform better.
-Fixed currently connected players being dropped at map switch in favor of new connections.
-Remote Console application is now fixed.
-Release of bound sockets works correctly.
-Bug causing missing spawn points and Gray flags that do not change is fixed.
-Bug causing soldier animation states to be dropped is fixed.
-Reconnection problems fixed.
-The ASEHost.dll "Failed to execute ASEQuery_init()" error is fixed.
-No longer need to reissue the admin.enableRemoteConsole and enableRemoteAdmin commands every time the server restarts.
-Bug in Standalone Server causing "Corrupted Data" error when hosting CTF on Bocage is fixed.
-Added hit detection feedback: Client crosshairs blink with a small dot in the crosshair and additional cross-lines when the server registers a successful hit.
-Dedicated server settings are saved properly. (Note: if Friendly Fire checkbox is turned off, the next time the dedicated server is started the check box will be checked, but the percentages will all be at 0%)
-Remote Admin (admin connected to server as a player) does not have to authorize every time a new map starts anymore.

Download the Client patch here and if your a server admin, or would like to run your own server, you can download the full server install from us here.

unrelated, but i just noticed the server time is daylight saving time....

probably unable to change, but considering this is a QLD site hosted NSW, maybe it hadnt been noticed...

Planes are now made from something closely related to toilet paper. I was shot down by small arms 10 times in 1 round this evening.

Dogfights are now a joke because the guy who happens to be lucky enough to see the other guy first wins. The increased power of the planes guns does nothing to improve the game and allows a small number of good pilots to rule the air.

The game is f***ed. I held off playing this game waiting for this patch, now tonite I have installed the bloody full game and patch twice. I have altered the videodefault.con file twice to allow the refresh rates within the game.

I have tried every res and refresh possible in multires (which worked flawlessly before) AND THIS f***ING GAME WONT EVEN START. Constantly dropping back to the desktop. AGAIN.

ffs, does anyone test this s*** before they release it?

Think I'll bin this bitch.

from what I have read on the forums both here and Overseas, a lot of people are having this and other problems.

The refresh rate program I have always used (Multires) has always worked perfectly well with any other game I play..except this one.

Might try another refresh proggy and see if that does anything

pfft there was too much emphasis on the pilots anyway, one of the reasons i quit playing the game online is because i'd see even the respected members of the community queing for planes instead of furthering the teams objectives.

maybe now there won't be a que for planes, only the best players will even consider using them and it'll all balance out.

ps: i don't consider myself to be a pilot, i NEVER use them.

To be a decent pilot you really need a decent computer.

Try piloting with lowest view range and lowest graphic qualities, you dont really get much time to line up targets on the ground... and air to air... well unless the other pilot is s***, you have no chance because you dont see them untill they are too close :(

Enter the Tanks, with a low end puter, the Tanks are still tough :D

Bahahahaha Psycho! and slaw boxen can't even get BF1942 to work.

Loving the new patch, shame they didn't do something about the name tags showing up when you are in/behind buildings and hills.

well, i finally got this running sweet again. apart from the usual audio tweak the biggest thing I found that improved things greatly was turning on vsync in D3D.

How do you check the frames per sec again? Its running brilliantly at 1024x768x32 maxed out now and I wanna see the frames its pulling.

:)

BTW have they dumbed this down or what...seems like every vehicles is easier to use/drive /fly and s*** I reckon I could down a plane with an air rifle?
