A bit of news on a console that hasn't been getting a lot of press lately: Nintendo's GameCube.

NEC announced today that it has completed construction of a new manufacturing plant in southern Japan and has begun cranking out the graphics chipset that is to be used by the GameCube. NEC spent a whopping $761 million on the plant to cater for the $2.8 billion dollar order from Nintendo. (article)

Also, some more info on arguably one of the most eagerly anticipated GameCube launch titles, Metroid. The game now looks like its going to be a First Person shooter/Adventure hybrid (coined an FPA by the developers for First Person Adventure). For more info, have a look here.

Gamecube rules!! The reason there hasn't been that much press about it lately is because there hasn't been much to talk about.

Nintendo aren't saying anything really until E3 2001, which is in May incidently.

I'm still with-holding judgement on the cube, but to be honest, PS2 and X-box are above it on my list of funky consoles.

Though, if some more awesome Rare games come on the cube (like Goldeneye) then it might be good :)

Well there is this game could External Darkness that was originally coming out for the PSX but then Nintendo bought them up and made them a 2nd party developer. Then it was going to come out for the N64, but they pushed it back to the Dolphin.

It looks bloody brilliant.

Wait until E3 and I bet you will want one then :)
