Dudes, there's some guy ('bill') on GA Ra3 telling me that the optus server is heaps less laggy than the GameArena server - can you confirm this and offer any suggestions as to why this might be the case?

I know the server is configured as per the manual, everything is running fine in terms of performance, etc. This guy is claiming the rail doesn't fire instantly (or something) and blaming his inability to hit anything on the servers performance. I did a quick test, but I suck at ra3 because I don't play it (because its dumb :P) and everything seemed to be running perfectly for me.

If anyone knows the RA3 server admins on Optus, it'd be good if you could find out any particular settings that server has as well.

I'd help you out... if I wasn't mysteriously banned from the O@H server@#@!!

Thats sorta gay... the only time that I half enjoy a quick game of RA3 is when it's ra3map1 (the bestest map)... other than that, it's even gayer.

The O@H server ONLY runs ra3map1 and has a 32player limit and very fine ping times...

one day, I just can't join it.

and yes i've tried just about every trick in the book to rectify the situation... it's still a no-go.

its just that u need to up the GA ra3 server to at least 25 players
then u can see if u get probs with lag etc etc
but u wont...

i found being a brisbane BPA user that the GA servers gave me a solid 40-50 ms with no packet loss, while with optus i was fluctuating from 40-100 with sometimes servere loss

Wireplay pings a little higher due to it being in Melbourne I guess. I get 0 packet loss to WP, and a constant 50 ping. Also, I get 0 packet loss to Optus (I'm on Optus), and a constant 30 ping (Sydney server).

I'd say Slaya was probably used to a lower ping Optus from his Sydney BPA.
The Ausgamers RA3 server on the otherhand is totally unplayable due to packet loss. NFI what the go is there.
Also, we need some Brisbane based servers!!!! So sick of seeing Sydney guys pinging 15 to Optus servers hehe.

the AusGamers server would be used more IF the perfomance was better, GameArena is full of people scared of 3Gb, Optus is jus full of everyone, it's always pinged a little lower and not spiked like the GameArena one has for me, imo it's prolly connection not server settings that cause the differences.

slayer is prolly one of the biggest fags in the game of ra3, he's up there with morgish and the half RX clan.

slaya finishes a deadheat with every other ra3'er as the biggest fag.

i dont see why people think all RA3 players are fags, really!
there are alot of cool people who play it and not that many tards at all, unlike CS

i dunno, there's just something about ra3'ers, maybe it's got something to do with
bindall 'weapon 7;+back' or sutn....whatever it is, i cant quite put my finger on it....

WP/GA has always pinged s***house for me from Sydney. Even when it reports 'only' 50 ping, it still feels way plossy. It cant be my fantastic BPA connection at fault, as it pinged fine to @homo.

If you have to play q3, why bother playing ra3 anyway? Any server you go to you just get callvoted off if you start beating ppl down anyway.

I ping about 20 ms better at optus than gayarena. I'd rather use my AUP and get better pings than play in lagyness. :I

I tried connecting about a week ago, it has these hellishly pretty spikes of red and yellow sporadically appearing.

ThreeWave is a lot better connection-wise.

I've seen a similar problem before. Tref and i used to lan a bit and sometimes we would notice problems such as what slaya is experiencing.

Nine times out of ten it was the hardware. I found that if you gave the NIC a buffer of around 4096k, it worked fine. You allocate a buffer to the IRQ that the NIC resides on. This can be done through system.ini.
Command is IRQx=4096 x=IRQ Number.

I found this helped me a lot when i had a shared irq in my system.
Who knows might work might not.

What OS does the server run ?
