Styles.no over at cached.net has done an interview with Vasily, the creator of hook.dll. Its an interesting read, especially Vasily's perspective on things:

styles.no: I read that you've been in contact with Valve - true?

Vasily: Yes and no. I mailed them three times. First time I warned them about a security hole and was ignored. Second time I showed them a few ways to fix this issue (it was the time when xqz2 and viperg were widely spread), ignored again. The last time I offered him to create an universal anti-cheat fix.

Also as a follow-up to the interview, Vasily has responded to the tremendous amount of questions and feedback he has received here. Its an interesting read, and personally i feel after reading it, even more alien to the counter-strike community.

LOL he is sledging Valve because they won't hire him to make anti-cheat software :/

Unlike creating an anticheat (that is a routine work that doesn't require any advanced skills)

Perhaps I'm overly cynical, but it sounds like he's just trying to divert attention from the fact that he's caused such an uproar.

I hope CS lives on for ever as a game that all the little kiddies and low life d*******s play.Because if CS was to cease to exist tomorrow all those sad tossers would be looking for another game to carry on like d*******s in.

i enjoy playing CS sometimes ( a lot of the time it stinks though ). I also enjoy playing Q3 ( just discovered 3wave and loving it ) and RTCW.

What is with bashing another person's game? Sure there is a large number of llama's playing CS but most of that can be attributed to it's popularity ( eg. 5% llamas in CS = 30,000 : 5% in Q3 = 15000 ). Can't we all just get along?

Thruth is that their are a lot of absive d*******s in CS thats why I gave it up.I used to love playing on the old QGL server with guy's like StreX,Capt0,[SA]Mick,Pharcyde and the like because we all knew that none of us was a cheat so the games were great.

The fact is that you can't have all the good guy's playing all the time not even in a game as popular(god knows why these days) as CS.Plus it's alot easier for one wanker to totaly f*** a game of CS for everyone,but a game such as T2 not even the biggest c******* can f*** everyones fun.Just look at all the scripts T2 has and even though some of them are boarder line cheats even someone that uses them all can't f*** the game up and make it a misery for others to play.

CS to me is fairly boring and slow paced. honestly, the cheaters dont really affect me... they are just robbing themselves of developing the necessary skills to be good at an fps game.

The thing that does piss me off about cheaters, is that their sole purpose of cheating is to piss people off and make the game un-fun for everyone else... and THAT is just downright dirty.

I think there are 2 reasons that there are so many abusive people in counter-strike nowadays:

1) Paranoia. The fact that they KNOW cheats are available makes their "Evil side" say to them "that guy could possibly be using cheats... whats to stop him?" so they lash out accusing anyone with an ounce of skill a cheat.

2) With the fairly recent release of Counter-Strike retail, A lot of young and immature people have received this game as a gift. The fact is that these people are NOT mature, and are basically acting as they would in real life (like swearing uncontrollably, mouthing off to people etc) but the thing is, nobody knows who they are, which in turn gives them a sense of security, and they keep doing it for the pleasure of being able to think "haha I'm giving this guy hell and he can't do a damn thing about it!"

It's much the same as Prank Calls... anonimity creates security. They are not afraid to act like total a******s because nobody knows who they are.

I agree Phar. The 1st point in particular. Everyone playing CS now is a potential cheater because of the easy of use and widespread availability of these cheats.

I like playing CS. I am a sane, rational guy. I treat people in an online server with me in the same way that I would if they were sitting next to me - I don't cheat, I don't bully, I don't flame, I don't intentionally spoil their fun, and I don't expect them to do so to me. I will admit, most Q3 servers I've played in, most people are also decent, like that.

I don't play CS on Wirepray or Ausgamers or many other places anymore because they're usually full of people without my values.

I play in servers (there are only a couple that I know of) where people are mature, take it easy, laugh off accidental TKs, never intentionally TK and almost never spam everyone with "1337_H@X is a cheatzor!!" every ten seconds. Maybe there are cheaters in there, but frankly it doesn't matter because no one notices - no one's score is BS, the admins know all the regulars.

I'm convinced that most of the people who bag CS on the Ausgamers forums don't believe that there's anywhere left to play properly. Cheats cease to be a problem when the community you're in shuns them.

Most CS players I couldn't give a fsck about, just like most people out there in society who carry on like morons. Just learn to avoid them, take the time to find your own crowd, instead of picking the easiest, lowest-ping option. How many of you avoid listening to commercial radio for just the same reason?
