That headline comes with a very big "yet" at its tail though. And this confirmation, by way of Windows Central, feels more reactive than firm. Still, if we've learnt anything about strategy in console wars over the years, it's to do the opposite of what's riling up the fan-base of your rival, which in this case is Sony's mark up of RRP for the PS5 in numerous markets around the world.

"We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options. Our Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains at $299 [$499 AUD] the Xbox Series X is $499 [$749 AUD],” came an official response from a representative for Xbox to the site.

We reached out to our local representatives who supplied us with the exact same response with the $AUD above.

Sony has understandably come under fire from punters and pundits alike for its decision to raise the RRP of the PlayStation 5. Though that blow has been softened with the gaming and tech giant doubling down on its efforts to shore up supply of the PS5, which has struggled to meet demand since its release.

We'll have more on the so-called "price wars" as it becomes available, so stay tuned.
