Nvidia has officially unveiled the expected 700 series of their flagship graphics cards with the GeForce GTX 780, which its presented as having "50% more memory and 50% more CUDA Cores than the GeForce GTX 680" and being "on average 35% faster than its predecessor".

The biggest new feature is an enhancement to the GPU Boost dynamic performance control tech, which can now be used to maintain a user-selected temperature and fan speed, for elective heat and noise control.

As usual with GeForce launches, the new card is available from US online retailers from today, and they've set a recommended US$649 price point. Geforce.com also has a detailed overview of the hardware, which includes all the performance profiling you could want.



Also officially launching today is their new piece of software designed for all Nvidia GeForce owners, to assist with configuring game settings for optimal performance. Titled GeForce Experience, the application will scan the components of your gaming PC, and detect the games you have installed, and present you with its recommended settings to get the most out of each title.

Nvidia has bigger plans for GeForce Experience too, promising a video capture component they're calling ShadowPlay to be introduced "this summer" (so in the next three months, in northern hemisphere vernacular):

ShadowPlay leverages the H.264 encoder built in Kepler GPUs (GeForce GTX 600 series or higher) to record high quality, 1080p gameplay footage on the fly. Because it utilizes a dedicated hardware encoder, ShadowPlay lets you capture gameplay footage fulltime without tanking your framerate.

In addition to traditional game capture, ShadowPlay users can activate “Shadow Mode,” which continually records and saves a pre-determined amount of footage to disk. If you pull off an outrageous mid-air maneuver in Battlefield 3, simply hit a hotkey and your moment of glory is instantly saved and ready for sharing on YouTube.

Finally, they've also dropped some new drivers today with 320.18 WHQL now available for download for all GeForce Owners.

Ouch!! I've been using GeForce Experience for quite some time its pretty good! i find it does the job but sometimes i prefer quality over fps

Have had my 680 for about 12 months now, can't really see the need to upgrade atm plus i can't really afford to either.

GeForce Experience is OK, but i find I always end up changing the settings as I get just as good FPS with higher quality graphics settings, well at least that was my exp. with Far Cry 3

Yeah i've notice this too. I am running old Quadcore but its still powerful enough but i dont think it believes me :)

I'm still using 2x GTX580's in SLi and couldn't justify the move to a 680, I don't think I will be bothering to go to a 780 either, unless it makes a HUUUUGE difference for gameplay on BF4.... Time will tell I guess.

i dont think its really need upgrade until end of next year or so.... I went from 260 to 670 and it was amazing jump!

Great thing is I can probably just sell my 580 and jump right up to a 780 without needing to change my PSU or anything.

This is more exciting to me than the next gen consoles could ever be. I was thinking of buying the GTX Titan, but does anyone know if the GTX 780 would be better for games than the Titan, it's sure is alot cheaper i know that much.

I'll probably grab one of these or the 770 (when they are released) alongside my new monitor purchase to replace my GTX 570. Seems like that will be the only future upgrade I'll need to stay on top of next-gen with my current setup, don't really see my i7 3770K needing a change anytime soon.

i always use cards that are two years old. they run the latest games well and are super cheap! buying the latest cards is a mug's game. good luck to you.

The Titan is massively overpriced. This is how it compares to my card that cost $450. The Titan costs $1250ish. Keep in mind that that comparison is made using the 7970's default clockspeeds of 925mhz/1375mhz and I have mine overclocked to 1125mhz/1450mhz with the max temperature only ever reaching 66 degrees C. Every game runs perfectly except if I try and run them at 8x MSAA.

I think Anandtech said "The end result is that with the GTX 780 delivering an average of 90% of Titan’s gaming performance for 65% of the price, this is by all rights the Titan Mini, the cheaper video card Titan customers have been asking for."

Seems the 780 is the way to go and i save a few hundred dollars as well, thanks for the advice guys.
As for AMD GC's, i've never had one so can't comment how better they are than Nvidia. I think i bought my first Nvidia card to play the original Tomb Raider and Quake. Every Nvidia card i've had has been 100% reliable and for that reason i stick with them, even if they are more expensive than the other brand.

Oops i made a mistake, my first card was the Voodoo1 3dfx to play TR and Quake, boy that's going back abit! My first Nvidia was the GeForce256.

First one for me was a Riva TNT, and it was an absolute dog*! They redeemed themselves with the GF2mx though which I had many happy years of play-time with.

*it was actually a case of the motherboard we had having known problems with the card, so it was our fault for not researching it properly not that we were tech savvy enough at the time to do so.

Man, my first graphics accelerator was an 8MB Voodoo2, that was the s*** till they came up with the miracle of integrating 2D graphics and 3D acceleration in one card and I got an awesome 32MB Riva TNT2 the moment they came out. That lasted me a good many years without faltering, didn't need another card till I picked up a 64MB Geforce 3 Ti500 after they'd been out a while. Those were the days..

I have a 470 and it still runs everything I want at good settings. Might upgrade to a 770 later in the year.

haha my first card was Asus Voodoo Banshee Fusion. It was first 2d/3d card on the market it had 2d card with slightly slower spc of Voodoo 2 with it. Oh i remember it taking me a whole year back in high school to buy one :)
