Topic: iPhone 3 - issues with 'headphone mode'

My boy has an iPhone3

It is in headphones mode.

He can change a ringtone and you can hear it through a speaker.
But iPod mode/music needs speakers to hear it.
Can't hear his phone if I ring it though.
Can hear 'keyboard sounds' if the headphones are in. Can't when you unplug it.

Have tried:
Google...
Has latest update.
Tried the suggested plug headphones in and out 7-8 times.
Tried playing music, shut it down. Unlugged headphones afterwards.
Rebooted.
Vac'd the sockets with the suction.
Removed sim card and restarted after clean.

Still f***ed.

Anyone had this problem before or know any tricks?

hey sleepy, My wife had this problem with her iphone 4 , the problem she had was it was always stuck in headphone mode, it was caused by the jack itself. The tech at the hornby apple shop looked into the jack and it was water damaged but the water pad that tells you if its been wet or not was not set off, the guy told us that he hasn't ever seen that before and replaced the device on the spot.

Check the headphone jack for damage

The phone thinks headphones are plugged in all the time.

Under warranty apple will replace.

If not find a 3rd party repairer.

yeah, however I have seen this before, sometimes, it can be due to a foreign object in the jack, or a bent pin,

have you tried jamming a jack into the port and back out (so insert, leave it in for a moment, the remove) this can free it up

otherwise, using a cotton bud (pull the cotton off, and just the plastic stick,) runs that back and forth to free a sticky/bent pin

if that doesn't work, get glass of water, and insert the phone into the glass, cause iphones are crap
