Any good editing software out there? Preferably good value for monies as I don't need one with all the bells and whistles.

What are you planning to achieve with the video editing suite? If it's just really basic movie maker might suffice, if not what features do you need that movie maker does not contain? |

I am in the same boat. I'm likely to have vids that are shot at various speeds (anywhere from 25fps to 120fps) I'm just after some basic type of 'timeline' type arrangement where I can lay down multiple sources of input, conduct cuts, audio/video fade ins and outs... some minor image stabilisation I guess (and the capacity to 'crop' the video... you know, for 'digital panning' etc). I'm sure that with after effects the list could become quite exhaustive, but in my experience with Adobe Premiere a few years ago, the more simple(read: less adobe), the better... |

Well virtual dub would do what you wanted more or less but i couldn't reccomend it as a solution... Once when i was younger i used adobe premiere and that thing was so intuitive that it was simple to be better by just using it more. I'd say if you were doing it longer than a single project then it'd be worth buying.
Like if it's a hobby for example, you should buy it. Most hobbies cost more than just a couple hunj anyway. |

some minor image stabilisation I guess This isn't a typical video editing feature, unless it exists in newer versions that I don't know of. There is a plugin for VirtualDub to do that (deshaker or something), but VirtualDub is not a good NLE system to use for your actual editing. I've used Adobe Premiere, and I've worked professionally with Avid, but I still prefer Sony Vegas for how intuitive it is, how fast you can work with it if you're familiar with typical computer interfaces (i.e. you come from a computer background, rather than a film editing background where you worked with a physical editing system), and it's easy to use but has all the extra features buried away in menus. |
