Need to buy a prejector for work. We will mainly be using it for powerpoint presentations to clients. At the moment we're working in portable type offices so I don't think we can go crazy and start hacking into ceilings so something that can sit on a table would be great and with the option to ceiling mount it when we move into proper offices. Not looking for anything crazy expensive, just something that is of good quality, easy to use and gets the job done.

Dell projectors are pretty decent for a budget data presentation projector.

We bought this one for our research group at UQ
http://www.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/peripherals/projector-dell-s300/pd.aspx?refid=projector-dell-s300&cs=555&s=biz DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED. Its a freaking awesome projector. Its short throw, does 720p, is widescreen, is under 1000$US, and has wifi on board, so you can stream to it. Also has HDMI, DVI, VGA, svideo and a heap of other crap. Its a freaking amazing projector, 3 metres away gets like a 7.5 metre display :D |

Hey Simul, the Dell range look good and not crazy expensive.. The wifi sounds good but can't see it in the specs? The only model with wifi I can see is the S300W and S300WI:

I have a BenQ projector - very happy with it for the $1200 or whatever price tag. Never had a problem with it. For powerpoints make sure you get brightest possible since you are giving pres in day time in probably pretty well lit rooms. |

just remember to get one that supports a good high res especially if it's for data ... 1024x768 on a 10 foot screen is some big motherf***ing icons and not much real estate.

Yeah this is a good point. Projectors are like LCD's - you want to work at the native resolution of the projector, so choose a projector to suit your future/current screen resolutions. |

Yeah I hear ya's about the resolution, was already giving this thought. 1280x800 is what the S300 series are, is this decent or will I need more. A lot of our presentations are spreadsheets..

Hook a PC up to a big TV and set the res to 1280x800 and see what you think at TV size.
personally I think it's too low ... but pricewise... it gets expensive to go better. |
