Topic: Recommend me a Samsung monitor

So, yet another "Recommend me a monitor" thread, but this ones a little bit restricted, cos it has to be a Samsung monitor (because my brother works with Samsung and can get me a good deal on Samsung stuff). As far as restrictions go its probably not a bad one though since it seems usually to be a Samsung monitor that gets recommended in these threads anyway.

So basically, I want the best widescreen monitor Samsung make. I don't want a monster 30inch monitor or anything, just a nice 23 or 24 inch widescreen lcd, but a top quality one. Its going to be used for a lot of work, and some gaming and movies as well, but probably more work than anything else for the next year or so. I had a look at Samsung's website and saw ones like this and this but I don't really know what I'm looking for and what all the specs mean, I was just picking the ones that cost more, figuring if they cost more they would have better features.

I'm running three 2443's and they are decent panels to run side by side, the bezel overlap is minimal, but my brother is running a 2494hs, and despite the loss of a 16:10 aspect ratio, the addition of HDMI input makes it a better choice IMO... (you can use a HDMI>DVI adapter, but the xbox 360 displays its picture in 16:10 on my 2443's, not a big deal, but the image is stretched.)

The 2443's are more expensive than the 2494's too.

Bang for buck, the 2494 is my recommendation for a Samsung

I've seen a 24" BenQ monitor doing the rounds of late that's pretty damn cheap tho...

First of all well done on considering a Samsung, they really are my monitor and tv of choice these days. I used to be a BenQ slut too, still use one too.
From what I can tell the newer Samsungs are the more expensive ones, and are pretty much guaranteed to be a bit more up to date with the sorts of features you would need.

On the samsung page there is a "compare" button that lets you compare the specs of 2 or more products. It's a bit of a bitch to use, but at least it is there.

I would think Khel you do have some clue on what those specs mean, but also check some previous recommend a monitor threads where people have explained some of that stuff, or google specific features to see what they mean?

Also google up some reviews, and even do searches for things like "productname problem" or "productname troubleshooting" if you're worried.

Well yeah, I know some of the basics, like a higher contrast ratio is better, but I dunno wtf it means when it lists 50000:1 as the ratio then in brackets says 1000:1. Or brightness, I can assume a higher number is better, but I still got no idea what it means, or if its something I should be taking into account. Difference between 2ms and 5ms? Neglible? Huge? Thats the sort of stuff I was wondering about.

But yeah, I'll go google up some reviews and see what the general consensus is.

2333 is completely awesome
except for the blue led at the bottom of the screen that flashes when there is no input. lights my whole room up in the middle of the night.

Someone posted an awesome comprehensive list of specs you should look for in a monitor in my thread (recommend me a monitor, or some such title).

Ended up with the SyncMasterP2270. It's the bomb.
