So I'm staying in mooloolaba and learnt that district 9 was just released. Anyway my room doesn't have a DVD player, so I went down to reception ready to bitch slap someone and was like wtf?!? I was told that minimum charge is 40 bux to hire one out!?! #%$@ I tried my luck and went to Coles to buy one but no soup. Went to blockbuster, hired out DVD and went back to reception to get the DVD player. Chick said oh yeah we don't hire them out, it's another company that brings the DVD players in and they close at 5pm.

I'm gonna try out woolies, any other suggestions?

Oh yer depends where you live (or Martz is) I suppose. Never crossed my mind they'd close earlier than 8pm in most places these days.

I love how within a few short minutes thread goes from "I need something to play District 9 on" to "I'm gonna buy a PVR!"

Guys are awesome.

Guys are awesome.

How is it just a huge leap from "I need a dvd player to play a movie I rented" to "I need a dvd player for home because mine is dying so I might as well get something decent while I'm at it"?

Not like women where they go out for "a loaf of bread" and come back with an entire grocery store packed away in the matching luggage they bought to hold the 100 pairs of shoes they just had to have.

yeah well at 7pm with everything closed, I thought I'd get lucky with a cheap and nasty dvd player from Woolies.. But then discovering that BigW is open till 9pm, I may aswell buy a decent one from their range of dvd players and take it home to replace my slowly dieing one...

anyway, to derail the thread even more, I noticed that wheneva I enter the resort building, I suddenly lose 3G connection and get that little circle = slow as f***ing internet and nothing else works on the iphone eg online games, apps/itunes.. Is it just me when I say that they do it on purpose so people have to purchase the wifi connection they have built into the rooms??? very dodge... Wheneva I step out of the building, bang! I get my 3G connection back.. sounds suss and illegal?

I'm just trying to think how they could do it?? (if they are) cause I get the full 5 bars of reception but 3G goes on and off like a switch when I leave/enter the building!?!??! radar jammer C&C stylez of some sort lol??

I don't know if they're doing it on purpose but maybe whatever they're using simply interferes with your signal.

My mate lives just up the road from me and for some reason when I step outside of my house my GPS picks up a satellite in about 30 seconds, as soon as you step outside my mates house you're lucky to pick one up a few minutes later. He has above ground power, I have underground power. We live about 3 or 4 minutes away from each other. Figure that one out.

The loss of signal is probably more to do with the resort's building materials than something nefarious. The new section of Chermside is a case in point, zero to no reception in some of the bigger shops (eg Borders).

paranoid martz

I get 0 bars inside my own house and full bars on the back lawns
just the area you're in is my guess, when my mrs was in hospital giving birth to my son I was using my iphone to tether up some internet for her macbook

I would sit the iphone way way way over in the corner up against the window and it would get 1-2 bars of 3g, which coupled with bluetooth gave her a 2mbit internet connection in the RBWH

I got mad props for that one cause she was in there for a few weeks
