Well most of my game collection from my youth has been pawned by my parents but I've recently bought

- Wooden box of classic monopoly
- Billionaire card game
- Mini mastermind game
- Hannah Montana Uno (got that version as a joke)

I remember Billionaire f***ing pwns but you need a few people to make a good game of it so I haven't had a chance to play it since I bought it.

Here's my monopoly box

Most other games I like are ones that don't require you to buy a board or special cards but I cbf talking about them atm.

I used to have Talisman and all the expansions for it. Damn cool game.

Also, stay away from mousetrap. It's really only good for one go then you have to dismantle the thing to play again.

Every single game of Monolopy I've played in my life has ended up in massive drama.

Physical fights, broken relationships, s*** getting smashed.

Serious business that game.

Hah, I'm not usually the person in the conflict :D

That specific situation, the GF was broke as and landed on her BF fully upgraded Mayfair... all hell broke lose.

I think there was some underlying issues, but Monopoly brought them to the surface.

Also "Nightmare".

I still got the original + 3 expansions (Baron Samedi, Elizabeth Bathory and ummmm?) in pretty sweet condition.

When I was a kid the common one I played was Monopoly and the bees knees was Squatter, corresponding with Checkers and Chess. Later on got into Risk and I think it's called Spy or something (two armies, you have to protect the general and you have soldiers ranking from private up).

Card games 500, 21, Eucha(sic), Patience, Rickety Kate (Hearts).

Awesome, I've never heard of strategy games, this could be very interesting, are any of those games suitable for 2 players? I tend to find games that require ringing in a third person never get played, which has been my prob with billionaire and monopoly.

similar to jabroney i play semi-regularly with mates - mainly risk, balderdash (absolute balderdash with a few beers is gold!) squatter and some card games. also cluedo is an old favourite.
also play cranium/pictionary with bigger groups of people as well.

great website jabroney, gonna check out some of those games

hey mate, if ur after a 2 player game, then a lot of the ones I list are very good even with 2 players, but Memoir 44 is awesome, it is a WW2 game only for 2 ppl. but at the moment, stone age is my favourite (2-4ppl)

i like chess
also the game 'go'

really have to be pretty good at these two or its not much fun for either player.

i'm teaching my boy to play chess so hopefully one day we can have a proper (challenging) game.

trivial persuit is cool. def not a fan of monopoly. much the same reason chub talked about. not that full on but i dont find it fun. kinda a cat in a bag waiting to drown kinda game.

my family likes talisman but ive never really liked it much.

I like Risk, but only picked it up later on in life. It's hard to find anyone to play it with.

Love Monopoly but as above it always ends in drama. When I was 18yo I played a 13yo and he sold me Mayfair and Park Lane with two houses each for $500 (and he wasn't under any financial pressure at all). Needless to say I went on to win, and I made him cry :-/ Whoops.

Trivial Pursuit is my ultimate game though; my missus too, so we play that a fair bit.

There was a great game called Stock Market with a slider in the middle. You could choose occupations like 'Deep Sea Diver' which affected your income depending on dice roll (3 or 11 for Deep Sea Diver). I really really really want that game but haven't been able to find it. Anyone heard of it?

**NVM: Found it: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3887 <-- great game! We had the Australian Edition because it had companies like Alcoa and so on. Man, if anyone can source this I'd buy it.

Carcassonne - this game rocks. I prefer playing it on xbox than in person because the interface rocks.
Settlers of Catan - it is on xbox live, rocks but in person is better.

Risk is the win.
Monopoly is great, but to much randomness involved and not enough strategy.

I have been looking at Axis v Allies which is suppose to be better than risk but can't confirm yet.

Billionare is okay, but a bit of a shout fest.

Also, if you like uno check out uno attack.

The blue army has nothing, just they get lucky when the yellow army betrays the black in an ill-advised power play.

It probably is better than risk because it requires a lot more skill than luck. However, it takes about 30mins to set up, and about 4-5 hours to play a game. So it isn't really a favourite in our group.

BAM! GW Jabroney.

I too recommend http://www.boardgamegeek.com .

Euyrogames like Agricola, Settlers of Catan and others are more based on skill and strategy then random luck.

So put down your increadibly boring and mundain games like Monopoly and start playing some of these other games. Only thing is, they are generally more expensive.

Some are even CO-OP!

Games like Space Crusade and Heroquest, OOO yeerrr!

If you liked Talisman then you'll like a similar more recently released game called Dungeonquest, go check it out.

Munchkin is also a fun card game.

I want to get Space Alert, a CO-OP game.

A good place to buy a lot of these games is http://www.milsims.com.au/catalog/

If you don't like buying games over the intertube then places like Mindgames in the city and there is a place in Northlakes shopping center.

Canasta & Trivial Pursuit are the main games in this household.

We also have backgammon but it is rarely played.

I used to play mastermind as a kid, that was fun

http://www.gamesparadise.com.au/ and even ebay I have found to be good for getting certain games. Some of the Euro ones I used to have to import, with English translations, but this has changed a lot lately

500 is the best card game Ive played. It really does reward the most skilfully player.
Oh Hell is another where you get ascending and descending amounts of cards and you have to name how many Tricks you will win and you get extra 10 points if you do.

Funniest game especially drinking is CHEAT.
Everything is legal in cheat you can cheat in the deal if you want.
You throw out cards facedown and claim that its like 4 Threes even if they are not 3's. You can also throw out 4 cards and call it 3 7's etc.
If you get called a cheat you have to pick up all the cards in centre or if you get called cheat and you didnt the player that accused you has to pick up all the cards.

Worst gambling card game of all time is GUTZ
Bit like Red Dog you get 2 cards and you have to decide how much you will wager that you next card will be between those 2 cards. Usually greedy hopeless gamblers will call out GUTZ for nearly everything and if you fail you have to throw in whatever you risked.

Grew up playing cards nearly every day.
Old man is nearly unbeatable at Euchre.

Yer, soon people will understand how s*** a lot of the standard boardgames that sell in major stores are. Then hopefully we will see the games with depth being sold in major stores, hopefully a bit cheaper then what they currently are.

Absolute favourite game is Scattergories, but my family hate playing with me because I always win. They played it with me for my birthday this year though :D Love Masters and Slaves (card game), frustration, Rummikub, Cluedo, Sale of the Century... Think I saw Who Wants to be a Millionaire for the wii in EB games??

yeah this goes back a decade or so but I believe this card game "Magic the Gathering" is still going strong.

http://www.wizards.com/magic

Had many a brawl with losing cards to ante. Be warned though for some reason it's addictive and leeched many hours and dollars back in the day.
