assuming you're using .nzb files. sabnzbd+ is the only client worth using imo. It runs as a service and you interface with it via web browser which is kinda gay, but it still craps on every other usenet client i've ever used.

alt.binz is fine for an individual app, but you're correct, there's issues with it.

newsleecher is fantastic, but it is expensive. the supersearch feature is quite brilliant compared to binsearch.info or newzbin.com, but it works well, and it's quick, if you know what you want specifically. if not, newzbin works much better at browsing the files on usenet.

but, if you're aleady paying/subscribed to newzbin, SABnzbd Plus is a much neater and more integrated application than alt.binz.

it basically runs in the background and has a website interface, but, all you need to do is bookmark an item you want on the newzbin/newzxxx website, and SAB will download it automatically, unpack the files and put it into a new folder for you. it's very quiet and seamless and you can set a speed to download so you don't choke the connection when downloading.

you can still drop your nzb files into the 'incoming' directory and it will queue them up and put them into their own folder as well, or you can upload the nzb file via the website, or add the newzbin ID number manually.

you can also link SABnzbd plus up to the tvnzb RSS feed and it will auto-queue the shows you want, and in the quality/size you want. http://mytvnzb.foechoer.be/ , or add a firefox addon to monitor/pause the downloads, or a greasemonkey script that modifies the newzbin site to show which items you've queued/downloaded visually.

in short, SABnzbd's a better app.

are you using the free version or paid/donation one? (not that i had issues with the earlier one)

I haven't had issues with Alt.Binz either. I love it, I can do everything from inside the program, and it'll automatically repair extract and delete archives as necessary. That's enough for me.

What version of Alt.Binz are you using?

sabnzbd.

One day I'll take a look at the source and see if I can write a custom front end for it - one of my many projects to do when I'm independently wealthy haha. The web-based interface is a bit awful.
