Googled to find out what it was and found a DIY tutorial http://www.qhphotography.com/Blog/DIY-Stofen-Omni-Bounce-like-diffuser
More on google. Trust me in photography if you can get away with making something from recycled/hardware parts then it is always worth it.

A lot of equipment and supplies for photography are actually very simple items. My experience is in video cameras, but I find that baking paper which costs a few dollars for several metres makes for a perfect diffusion gel that would cost like $20 for a metre or so at a photography store. Or using dashboard reflectors, umbrellas, and polystyrene to bounce and cut light. There are also plenty of DIY tutorials I've found for various camera mounts and such that you can make for 10 bucks that cost hundreds to order from a magazine.
Use your judgement I guess, some things require a lot more precision, but I imagine something to diffuse a flash wouldn't. Second hand is a great option too.

Cameras Direct on the Gold Coast seem pretty good.

I bought an SB-600 there last year and got it the day after I ordered and their prices are pretty good to:

www.camerasdirect.com.au

I'd buy there again.

I almost bought the crumpler 7million dolalr home, but they had no eftpos facilities ... so I wandered off to get money and a coffee and thought I'd check Hardley normal

Now I am a Kata fanboi. The 3n1 is exactly what I wanted

Ironically the 7 million dollar home is what I bought! It is a fantastic bag and has taken a little bit of a beating already.

I have a considerable embarrasment as my laptop bag as well which has been great but is only 3 weeks old.

In all fairness I havnt seen the Kata bags yet :)

Well my first order from Camerasdirect

I have just realised that we have run out of {snip blah blah blah} it may be a while until we get them in again!

Just confirms my belief in how utterly useless they all are.

I've had mine for a year and it's still going strong. The only thing I didn't like was the velcro because it was too noisy but a $2 purchase at Spotlight fixed that annoyance.

Someone at work recommended camerasdirect; I ordered a UV filter from them and it arrived next day; was pretty happy with it. Was like $70 cheaper than buying it retail too I think.

I ordered online for a while until I realised that Photo Continental would price match damn near everything and I could actually go and talk to them about it.

I went to photo continental as I do prefer to buy in bricks and mortar but the guy was a cock and not interested in dropping or matching prices. So online and savings here I come (or there I went).

I've bought stuff a few times from camerasdirect.. they've always been super fast and have good prices. Obes - you must have been unlucky with whatever you were buying being out of stock. I hate it when that happens, especially when it's umart.

How can anyone say camera's direct are good...

I ordered 5 items. For Nikon!!!
1 not in stock not getting any time soon despite being "in stock" and 2 of the items come and they are the Canon version ...

3 out of 5 items were wrong!!!

It's just plain terrible. Now I'll have to fight to get the nikon version sent, which they'll prolly tell me is out of stock and won't be getting then I'll have to send back the canon versions at my expense!

You must have been really unlucky dude. Sounds like something went really f***ing wrong.

I ordered a canon 40d, battery grip and CF card. Took 2 days to arrive and all was good.

Jim ordered a 500D the other day and it was delivered the next day. They even rang him up to ask him about not purchasing a CF card (The cameras dont come with any storage)

Trog has ordered from there as well with no dramas.

Well, we'll wait and see.

They may fix this up nice and fast. And turn me into a raving fan.
Or
They might not and I'll turn into an ugly stalker that makes a hate domain.

D40s are also cool because they can use some very old pre-ai lenses with out modding

Out of interest, what made you go the 50 over the 35 when it's twice the price?
Boxhead

You know.. interesting question.. im not much of a photographer.. well i hope i'll get better..

the 35mms with its 50mm equivalent on the dx body would prolly suit me better but i really like the bokeh/blurry sorta effects (i guess) that i've seen in some of the reviews and portrait shooting seems a bit more accessible to me then doing kicking rad landscapes all the time.. hurmm down the track i might get a hold of something a bit bigger wether its a d90 or d3 or something big

so in short more of a desire to try to shoot some stuff that i've seen around the place and a large tax return helped hehehe..

Well they ended up send me out the right ones ...
So at least they got there in the end.

50mm on a DX looks fine for portraits from what I have seen.

Lets have some photos from the new lens already boxhead
It's one of the lenses I'd like along with any of the f2.8 zooms
