http://www.winehouse.com.au/categories.asp?cID=359&cN=Whisky&c=23227. I havent checked first choice or dan murphys.

We shouldn't pay VAT, right? As for duty, I guess it depends on whether or not customs are aware of the value of the shipment. If it could be sent as a few boxes or even to seperate addresses (too much trouble at all ends, I guess) it might be avoided.

Still looking at the site, I am in Tassie until September but would still be interested in ordering.

. Yep, thats right, we get 17.5% VAT off. I posted home about 10bottles while I was living there. I only got Customs once when I decalred it. Could see what postage to tas is, but then youll be eating in to your savings.

Why choose those whiskeys?

Are you willing to go to all this hassle to drink those whiskeys?

The UK sites have thousands of whiskeys. The ozzy ones dont. Im showing the difference. Ie, the product has to be avalible in both countries to show a comparision. Also, some, like the cutty sark is cheaper here. So obviously not worth importing.

The list is just a guide with products mentioned here http://qgl.ausforums.com/index.php/439207/?agn=thread&id=2631266

Yes. Not much hassle really, Ive spent about 2hrs research. Itll take me about 30mins to order them, for a saving of about $300 for the ones im going to order. I hate buying from retail when i know i can get a better deal.

FROM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky

Whisky or whiskey refers to a broad category of alcoholic beverages that are distilled from fermented grain mash and aged in wooden casks (generally oak). Different grains are used for different varieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize (corn).

Here is a fact: The words Whisky and Vodka mean 'water' in the countries where the drinks originated.

mooby, I have spotted a bunch of stuff I would order, how do you want to go about this? Wait for other takers for awhile, PM you with the exact stuff we want then payment by DD or something? Any theories on beating customs if at all possible? I hate those guys.

I'm quite interested in some savings, but what am I looking at paying? I can't read your opening post mathemagics.

The men who are complaining about the taste of scotch are little boys and not men at all.

The first number is the price in pounds to buy from the UK store, the second number is that price converted to $AUD at the current exchange rate, the third is the local price in $AUD (as if you were to buy it here) and the last one is the %age difference between the two.

I guess the cost is " cost of bottle + cost of shipping (refer to chart, will be between $14-28 depending on number of bottles) + some undetermined amount by customs ". So it all depends on how much customs slugs you for this sort of stuff.

When i was in the UK i sent about 10bottles home to mates and to myself, never got done. We'll put "gift" on the customs dec too, see if that helps. Worst case, i think we get done %23 wep tax of the whosale price and %10 gst.
then payment by DD or something

I was thinking pay half now, and pay rest on delivery + any duties. Ill give them a buzz today.

uisgebeatha is gaelic for water of life. voda is russian for water, ka is a diminutive, so vodka is "little water"
nearly every country calls one of it's national booze products "water of life". Aguardiente - types of rum from middle and south america and surrounding islands. akvavit from northern europe, eau de vie from france.

also, on whisky, sounds awesome, will work out funds and check out some bottles.

Bump, also:

Gesthemene, have you found your membership in the SMSWS at all useful? Their prices for the house whiskys look a bit steep...
