For those few people that were still wanting invites or whatever you'll be pleased to hear it's becoming an open beta in a few days:

We... are excited to announce that we're opening QUAKE LIVE to the general public as an open beta the evening of Tuesday, February 24th. On Monday morning (U.S. central time) we'll be taking beta.quakelive.com down for about 36 hours and then opening to the public at www.quakelive.com on Tuesday evening.

As for people who already have accounts and want to make sure they keep their name:

Coordinated with the open beta will be a stats wipe and pruning of player accounts, however we want to make it as easy as possible for all of you to transition over. On Monday, we will be deleting the player accounts of people that have not played in the last 28 days. If you have played within the past 28 days, you will lose your stats, but will NOT lose your player name, custom settings, profile information, etc.. When the site opens again on Feb. 24th, you will be able to use your current email address and password to login as usual. If you have friends that haven't played recently, but will want to maintain their account, let them know that they should play a game between now an Sunday. After Tuesday, we do not expect to ever completely wipe QUAKE LIVE player stats again.

Here's hoping that the guy with the name I really wanted hasn't played in the last 28 days!!

I always thought it was a browser based version of the original (and still the best) quake. Quake3 sucked.

I got a beta invite for this a couple of weeks ago. Signed up via the puzzling/annoying two-times login creation and registration process.

Went through the almost too-long ranking level smacking a bot around.

Found a FFA server that was just that - plain vanilla DM (this was actually a feat).

Joined the server. Played for 20 seconds. Got kicked to some mysterious PunkBuster-related error.

Tried again. Booted again. Same error.

Tried running in Admin mode. Booted again.

Looked up the forums, to see if anyone else had the problem. Saw two threads with hundreds of posts on the matter. Saw no genuine Sticky thread on the issue.

Stopped researching and played something else. I'll try again when it's fixed.

I got my invite a few weeks ago. Signed up a couple of days ago and everything went fine. I also smashed the bot around a bit. Joined a game, got smacked around a bit. Did a few rocket jumps, attempted to climb a wall with the plasma gun and failed, missed with the rail a few times and got the quad.

Yay for Quake.

been playing on the closed beta its been sweet, glad they threw instagib servers up too. alot of the old players are on there. Hopefully this release will pull some players from the tired wench of a game we call wow ;).
