Why am I not surprised this came up on QGl? I saw it there when I was looking through the TV Guide earlier tonight.

I prefer my shows about prostitution to be more glamorous and fake, like "Satisfaction" or "Secret Diary of a Call Girl"

Was listening to ABC radio one morning and they had this guy on who runs http://www.protectakid.com/ He used to and maybe still does make trips on behalf of a group to rescue child prostitutes from (i think) Thailand crime gangs.
If you have kids you might like to check out his site which is about identifying threats to kids and educating them on safety.

He was some ex-detective or something from America... anyway he did a survey of 100+ sex workers in and around Sydney.
He found that 100% of them had been sexually abused as a child.
Its a sad comment on what Prostitution really is and where it begins.

I'm pretty sure most prostitutes are just in it for the money. It does pay pretty well.

That almost all prostitutes have been sexually abused as children is not really groundbreaking news nor that hard to understand. While you don't specifically mention it, I assume those numbers are for female sex workers, I'd be fascinated to see if the percentage was as high for male sex workers.

The other interesting thing to note would be that many many more people have been sexually abused as children and would not admit to it or even remember, whereas I suppose these sex workers are much more aware of it (I'm pretty sure they say that at least a third of all children are sexually abused with the number more likely to be even higher or something like that).

You say evil, I say "PARTY ON!!!!"

Not really. Never been to a hooker myself - I couldn't imagine ever have the need to use a hooker. Although, hanging out a local cricket club here there's an intellectually disabled bloke and he's always talking about going to the hookers. First time I heard him it really made me think because the guy couldn't get a root in a month of Sundays, so what option does he have?

My gf is reading a book at the moment called "The Porn Report" - that looks pretty interesting. Waiting for her to finish then I'll have a go at it. It's a bit sensational, but it does debunk some myths.

Yeah from memory i thing he included 10 men and yes they had been abused.
Money for sex isnt as easy as some ppl believe.
Abused children you would think wouldnt want anything to do with sex with strangers as adults but in fact it becomes just the opposite with Prostitution.

Im not Anti-Prostitution.
When i heard that interview it sort of changed my mind a bit about the whole thing. I might see if i can dig up the interview.

Wow, just listened to the interview with this criminologist (Dale Jackson) - very interesting. 45 mins of audio but worth the time.

Edit: For those who aren't interested in listening, basically talks about his life and new book on protecting kids, how he got into his line of work (dealing with sex offenders) and how you can safeguard children against sex offenders (tell them about their anatomy, appropriate vs inappropriate touching and "good" and "bad" secrets from a young age to harden up your child so that they know what to do in such a situation - he recommends from the age of 4).
Oh, and he says a "good" secret is not telling mummy where her christmas present is that dad hid away, whereas a "bad" secret is something that makes the child feel bad.
Very interesting to know, at least imo.

You prefer the work-at-home hookers or the ones that do in-calls ?
