Interesting post on the Chris Martenson forums: http://www.chrismartenson.com/forum/its-official-uk-government-now-bankrupt/13513

Excerpt:

You would think that news that the UK government is bankrupt would be headline news around the world. When I quote the piece of news that announces the bankruptcy, you may say 'huh?', and like the newspapers, initially find it difficult to see it. I will start with the news itself, which was tucked away in the financial section of the Telegraph:

'Charlie Bean [the Bank of England Deputy Governor] put his weight behind the pound's 25pc fall over the past year in an unusual comment on the pound. Mr Bean also confirmed that the Bank is poised to start buying government bonds in a drastic attempt to resuscitate the stricken economy.'

If we translate this, it means is that the Bank of England is going to print money to directly finance the operations of the UK government. This is the action of a government that is now literally bankrupt. The bank is not going to buy the bonds to 'resuscitate the stricken economy' but will buy them because nobody else wants to buy UK government bonds. There are not enough people willing to lend to the UK government. It is bust. It is bankrupt.

It's a good read on the fundamentals of inflation.

An Israeli doctor says 'Medicine in my country is so advanced
that we can take a kidney out of one man, put it in another, and
have him looking for work in six weeks.'

A German doctor says 'That is nothing; we can take a lung out of
One person, put it in another, and have him looking for work in four
weeks.

The Russian doctor says 'In my country, medicine is so advanced
that we can take half a heart out of one person, put it in another,
and have them both looking for work in two weeks.'

An Australian doctor, not to be outdone, says 'You guys are way
behind, we recently took a man out of Queensland, put
him in Canberra, and twelve months on, about half the country is
looking for work.'

I don't recall the coalition taking a lot of said decisions?

Per-capita Government spending increased during the Howard years. Massively increased tax receipts allowed the establishment of budget surpluses, not some Costello economic voodoo.

Same here. Lots of people are leaving London. I worked in Canary Wharf over there and was working the day Lehman Brothers Collapsed. 5000 people were told to go home, surreal site. Boxes in hands, something you usually see in the movies.

But lets face it the fact that the Chinese and Japanese wanted to buy our minerals sure f***ing helped ... alot!

Now the Japs, Poms and Yanks are broke and the Chinese are scaling back or are simply buying up our mining companies dirt cheap.

Its just a matter of time.

Not entirely true.
A government can do things to improve performance and to negatively impact performance.

eg. floating the dollar, signing FTAs, provide backing on bank deposits to prevent runs on banks, handing over control of offical interest rates to the RBA, improve infrastructure (ie. the more coal you can get on to more boats, the more coal you sell) ...

Obes, you responded like i was saying the govt has nothing to do with the state of the economy. This is not my thinking, i was just making sure people don't put too much emphasis on the govt (or all!!) for the state of the economy.

faceman if that's what mooby said, he was dead right. the fact they are doing it now, when all else has failed, only supports his position. it's like clinging to driftwood

you don't tell anyone so - you just regurgitate junk you find that satisfies your psychological need for conspiracy

Hahah what?!

It is a proven scientific fact that thinking about something often causes it to happen. Some call this quantum physics. Others simply call it "faith." We ask that you open your mind to joining in with a unique psychic force that will change our lives through the power of thought.

Quantam physics is about thinking happy thoughts!

faceman, when you woke up this morning did you think "hey I might jump into the middle of the atlantic ocean and clutch onto that floating debris"? that would be a dumb idea right?

but you might if you were on a sinking ship, all the life rafts were destroyed and no rescue boat had yet arrived. sure it's not as desirable as sitting in your home eating weetbix and browsing your favourite conspiracy theory website but it may prolong your death

while i'm all for positive thinking having an infleunce on the things you do... i think that stating it's a 'proven scientific fact' due to quantum physics is taking the idea of superpositioning a little too far :P coz THAT'S A LOT OF ELECTRONS !@#! :D

Well I would be wondering what sunk the ship ?
and what am i doing to make sure it doesnt happen again ?

instead Im going to build a NEW ship that will be even easier to sink and hope that the same amount passengers will pay to get on board then set sail again.

I still think printing more money can work in the short term if everyone does it after all isnt that what the Fiat system Really is ?

f*** off you would! Get your hand off it :)

If you're sitting in the Atlantic on a piece of driftwood waiting to die you sure as s*** aren't working to make sure it doesn't happen again. You have a few more immediate concerns...

The only chick riding the financial crisis is the whore of Babylon !

“…Then I saw another angel descend from heaven who shouted with a mighty voice: ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
For she has become a dwelling for demons and every evil spirit…All the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries…The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her…But now the music of harpists and musicians, pipers and trumpeters will never be heard in her again, nor will any worker of any trade or even the sound of a millstone ever be found in her again…Woe!
Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon…For in one hour your doom has come…”

I doubt there is much rudd can take credit for. He has no control over the situation. If things go good, he takes credit. If things go bad he blames the previous govt (don't they all). He's doing nothing.

Posting to say there has there has never been a worse time (other than during The Blitz) to be living here in London. I've been out of work for close to 3 months. I went to do a test on Monday for an entry-level position in a completely different sector that I have been in - 30+ people all doing the test at the same time for 1 job. It's crazy s***. Recruiters have so many CV's to read through that they don't even bother getting back to people these days - they can pretty much pick and choose people who match the spec perfectly - perhaps have just been made redundant from x company's main rival.

On top of that, with the pound being completely f***ed against the Euro now, there is no financial advantage in travelling through Europe - everything ends up costing you more when you get there, as something that cost you €5 2 years ago, still costs €5 (or more), but you have less €€€ for your pound.

Thinking I will be back in Bris by May at this stage. If you are thinking of coming here in the next 1-2 years, have a serious think about it, and make sure you have worked secured. I have seen a few friends move here recently who have been given a proverbial uppercut, and are on the verge of returning home already.

^ I have been fully planning to go to the UK start of next year to stay for 6-12 months at least. Now it's not looking so great.....:(

What are s***kicker jobs like? Glassys, supermarkets, etc etc? Assuming at a premium as well?

There's still a bit of live-in barwork around. And plenty of jobs for things like Charity Muggers, telesales, etc. I've been in sales over here, and know how s*** it is though - won't catch me going back into it.

I think one of my housemates is getting made redundant this week too, and a few of my team mates from hockey have just been through it. I'm not sure what Canada is like at the moment, but it might be a better option at this stage for people wanting to work abroad.

According to a conspiracy nut I was talking to a month ago, the UK is about to ( seems to be happening right now? ) have a major currency event, followed by the U.S. and this will be the catalyst to bring a global currency into being and the 'New World Order' one step closer to their final solution.

For anyone who thinks a New World Order is actually feasible, I defy them to outline the mechanics of just how it would operate (national sovereignty aside).

Global economics and politics are so fragmented and chaotic that this suggestion is just whacky.
