Just about to do my first format in about 3 years and was wondering what the absolute best browser in everyone's opinion is? Something that remembers usernames/passwords and when a link is clicked on, it will copy that link to cache, unlike Safari and Chrome.

Opera is my favourite. It has some cool features, though you have to add the spell check seperatly (which I havn't since I reformatted, hence my bad spelling), I really like the speed dail page, and the form filling out info you can put in. Ooh and I like how it can put a mini version of each tab you can see when you roll your mouse over. The only thing I don't like is that when you right click and open in new tab it will take you to that tab, unless you select 'open in background tab' but you get used to that. And when you double click on stuff it opens a menu with options, like copy, search ect. I think you can get a windows version (though I just use Chrome on my Windows machine). |

I have tried :
IE7 : Is now doing random s*** like won't load pages, so close it and reopen it and then it opens the same page. Opera : Has some weird mIRC client built in and doesn't save s*** to clipboard Safari : Doesn't save s*** to clipboard or remember usernames/passwords Chrome : Clipboard issue, see above. Might just format and go back to IE7 on a fresh install with SP3 .... See if that fixes it. |

I think it's a tough choice between Chrome and Firefox.
I haven't really used chrome as much as i have used firefox (been using firefox since the early beta days when it was firebird). I mainly use firefox, but that's because it's got an assload of developer tools that make my job a hell of a lot easier. I love how fast the rendering in chrome is, it's lightning fast. If i was you, I'd have firefox and chrome installed. Give both a birl and see which one you like more. last edited by jadz0r at 00:09:13 13/Feb/09 last edited by jadz0r at 00:09:48 13/Feb/09 |

how often do you open your browser? I do it once a day absolute max, usually heaps less Since I also game on my internet machine I usually close all the running apps when opening a game and if I go out somewhere I also shutdown the PC (you kind of start doing things like this after you've had a PC almost catch on fire, what luck I have :p) so I tend to close and re-open firefox many times during the day/night and even my dad noticed s*** loading times after I "upgraded" him to firefox 3 (he's been using 2 forever). also how do you open your browser "heaps less" than once per day? Do you just leave the pc on & browser open 24/7? edit: I just reinstalled opera and hot damn it's like browsing the internet with v-tech yo. Starts up in less than 1 second, draws pages nice & fast, I might even ditch firefox for it soon as I can figure out why it won't render my NAS control page :p last edited by whoop at 01:37:09 13/Feb/09 |

i've been using chrome at work for several months and chrome at home since my rebuild. I miss some of the things from firefox, like adblock. but that's it.
it's interesting to see the web all flashy again. The only problems i have with chrome is the security settings mean some of my self-certed https sites don't https and one of the porn sites doesn't display porn. i know the second one sounds serious, but since firefox works i use it for that. but all my bookmarks and passwords are now in chrome. |

For anyone having slow Firefox 3.x start-ups, export and reimport your bookmarks.
That will reindex or defragment the bookmark database or something. It works! |

OS's in my order of preference:
I'm a massive fan of Chrome, but then I don't use any extensions so its greatest flaw doesn't affect me. It's fast, functional, stable and looks good. I'm using FF at the moment. I don't really know why. I guess once I reformat I'll go to Chrome. I hate FF fanboys who spread propaganda and misinformation to make people switch over. Stupid s*** like "You don't need antivirus and other protection software if you use Firefox". No joke, I have seen that on sites that claim to be impartial and reputable reference materials. I used to use IE7, but it's too much of a resource whore. If I had a faster PC (this one is getting a bit dated) I would not object to using it. I wouldn't say it's bad, there's just better things out there. I've used Opera, mostly on non-PC hardware, where it is king. My phone uses an Opera browser, and I love it. The PC version is OK IMO, but it didn't steam to stable and has a few niggling issues. I wouldn't rule it out though. I use Safari on my Hackintosh. It's reasonably fast and stable, but I don't like the interface. |

^^ Yeah I use opera on my phone as well, and opera on my PC crashes sometimes making me manually delete my downloaded file database, wtf is up with that? Wasn't porn that caused it last time either it was a file off ausgamers (nothing wrong with the file as it worked fine in firefox).

Firefox for me, though I do use Chrome occasionally as well. Personally I just love the add-ons/customisability of Firefox over Chrome (for instance I'd love to make the toolbar buttons in Chrome smaller), and although Chrome is noticeably faster in rendering pages, I have no idea what you guys are doing to make Firefox take ages to open, it must open 0.1 sec slower than Chrome for me. The main feature of Chrome that I absolutely love is all the tab moving functionality, that you can turn tabs into windows and move them to other windows is something Firefox needs to implement ASAP. |

i only use FF and IE7
FF pros remebers passwords better then IE7 can type something random into the address bar and it will find your website after you close it it comes right back to what sites you were looking at - awesome for troubleshooting when ur at some random site and u need to reboot and you can come straight back to where you were cons no active x its not a biggie.. but there are sites that you need it and have to switch to ie7 ie7 pros has active x cons everything else |

I also like how the address bar doubles as the google search bar, genious! Also its 'Oh Snap' messages when something goes wrong is worth a mention. last edited by mission at 09:31:27 13/Feb/09 |

also how do you open your browser "heaps less" than once per day? Do you just leave the pc on & browser open 24/7?Yep. Both at home and at work - I leave my work PC on almost 24/7 because I connect to it all the time at home so i can keep an eye on email, etc. My home PC I typically suspend/hibernate and leave the browser open. I love the fast startup of Chrome (I often use it for new sessions when I want to have another whole window open for some reason, like watching cricket scores). But yeh, the comparatively slow startup of Firefox isn't a big deal to me because of my usage patterns. Even if I was gaming I'd prolly leave it running and just minimise it and rely on swapping and my vast amounts of RAM to deal with it happily. |

How do you get Chrome to open all the new windows in new tab in the BACKGROUND? This is the only thing that stops me from using Chrome because I use Google Reader and when I press "v" (kb shortcut to view full article) the new tab opens but it frigin' set the focus to the new tab!.
I typically open heaps of article that I wanted to read as I scroll past all items and go back to read them later. I can do this with Firefox easily but unchecking "When I open a new tab switch to it immediately". This problem stops me from using Chrome and Safari as my regular browser. Can anyone see a work around ? |

I do but for googlereader the keyboard shortcut is quicker cause I use spacebar to skip the next article, then press v to view it etc. Opera and Chrome are the only 2 browsers that you cannot force this to happen. It's a show stopper for me unfortunately because I use Google reader a lot. |

I use Firefox almost exclusively as its possibly the most secure of all the web browsers while still having all the functionality available. NoScript FTW!
Chrome is nice and once its not beta anymore and they stop sending your private data to google it might become a regular browser for me. |

Uhhh what? Chrome stopped being beta ages ago... No, Its still very much a beta. They just removed the Beta wording from the titles. Same as WoW just putting patches to live realms instead of PTRs. Everything from Google I admire and can see as awesome software, but due to the open source style they use, it will be an eternal beta cycle. |

We had a look at http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php and did some investigations and it addresses alot of the google reporting issues, but is generally atleast 1 version behind the stable releases. Its basically a recompile of the source available from google for chrome.
