A good alternative to the func is the ricochet.

I have one of these http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=24&bid=2&sid=17588 nice & large and it's hard plastic covered with a soft bit & some cloth so you can throw it on whatever surface and it'll always be flat. Chairs, beds, someone's face, no matter what it's always stiff (insert penis/mum joke here).

looking around, the mantis seems to have been replaced by the Razer Goliathus.. You can buy it from Umart and choose from 3 sizes. Still has the control/speed variants.

Do you notice an advantage using a laser mouse on a mousepad or do you have a bad/reflective desk?

I haven't seen a mousepad since the lasers came out...

it's not about the reflectiveness $sack, it's about the glide of the mouse

Check out the Cyber Snipa ones as well.
Back-lit. Special acrylic surface. designed for high accuracy mice. SLightly oversize. I haven't felt a better surface. I love it. Around $30

I'm sorry I don't have the anti-gravity mouse that you do, my mouse actually makes contact with whatever I use it on. A piece of paper would be worn out & torn to shreds in about a week with the amount of mousing I do and I'd rather not have to keep wasting sheets of A4 paper when a decent from BigW (~$20-$30) mouse pad has lasted me probably about 5 years or more.

desk ftw

Rather not scratch my UberDesk™.
