wow, after abt 10 mins and abt 3 emails activating various things I'm playing... didn't seem to work in FF3, had to boot up IE, *nooooooo*

This game kicks ass... i retired from CS again and now quake live is the only game i play.

Pretty active community.. and when it gets released.. i think it will take off again. Can only hope.

What is Quake Live?

It's still in beta stages so there are going to be some issues.

I have quake 3 and play CPMA but nobody is ever in the servers, and if there is they are oldschoolers who have been playing for years.

With quake live i can hop on anytime and there are usually people playing.. at peak times 4/5 servers to choose from with a decent amount of players.

It's a good strategy to get more people interested in a game that is a bit old now. It seems to be working because there are _alot_ of new players coming in.

is it really worth trying to hide gmail accounts anyway?

umm... i assume you mean low pingers all <100ms? otherwise youll just go back to those days of q1 where latency ruled the match.

Yes. There is plenty of AUS servers with AUS people on it.

I don't get why you are kinda hating on the quake live concept for this thread and the last QL thread.

Advantages over quake3
1. It is free
2. Auto update - no patch install bs
3. Skill match making
4. Takes 5-10mins to sign up and play
5. New players - q3 is like 8 or 9 years old or something and no one plays it anymore. This is a way of reviving the game. Much easier then spamming forums with "Q3 TUESDAY NIGHT OMG" then put up with the replies of 'what patches do I need?' etc.

I read that Live is actually Gold - does this mean it'll include Harvester and Overload? Man I hope so.

Not having a standalone dedicated server killed all interest in this game for me. I'm not going to f*** around playing an FPS where they want me to. This is very un-id.

There is a thread on the quake live forum about the server quality. I recommend others post in there too!

It could just be because its in beta phase, but its just not fun to have to look at your ping before you take a shot all the time.

I just went to see if I had invites to give out; got into the id beta centre then gave up trying to get into the Quake live thing, can't find my account details and their site throws an error when I try to reset my password, and I sure as f*** can't be bothered making a new account

Yeah looks like there is an issue with the "placement game" at the moment.

I played the game against Crash 3 times and it kept saying "ok now you have to play a "placement game" at the end.

I went on the forum and apparently it's some sort of loop they are trying to fix.
Heaps of people were having the same issue.

Game looks good though, seems to run ok. Time to delete q3 and free up some hdd space.

Anyone having troubles with this on windows 7 64bit? I got firefox and IE problems when I try to load into a server, I can hear s*** but not see s***.

Works fine on XP at home just wanted to load it on my laptop so I could go to uni and not do uni work.

The point of testing is to let them know when things aren't working, tell them on the forums!

If you keep getting the punkbuster error.

1. Check firewalls etc..
2. Right click ie / firefox / whatever and 'run as administrator' before going to quake live site.

This seems to work.. the error will randomly stop happening too when you open normally.

Also, if you keep crashing, there's a problem with the error reporting form believe it or not. If you submit an error report then sending/updating will fail and it will crash FF/IE, if you just close the error report form instead of submitting it will be fine. It's an easy trap to fall into but I'm sure they'll fix it quickly, only came in with the latest update anyway.
