Baldur's Gate .. sorta.

The story was very predictable, but the characters and voice acting were so well done for a game of its vintasge you didn't notice really. Definetly worth a mention!

Secret of Mana
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father
Wing Commander IV
Under a Killing Moon

I'd like to include Sam and Max or Day of the Tentacle but nah. Twilight Princess isn't too bad, I guess, dunno about best though.

Notice how everything I've listed is at least 10 years old? :/

Its just a shame that deus ex 2 was so crappy in comparison

Mass Effect - great game, only issue with it I have is that its split up into a series, they really could have gone that extra step.

Chrono Cross - before disc 2 it was brilliant
Secret of Mana
Kana: Little Sister - only game thats ever made me cry
Max Payne 1 & 2 - pretty decent storyline I though

I'd say WC3 was heaps better than 4, more very dodgy cat suits and a porn star. 1 and 2 had better gameplay though, and all of it is pretty much dwarfed by freelancer.

Kana: Little Sister focuses on storytelling, and falls into the subgenre of anime revolving around incestuous relationships.

I only said the story was good, which it is. As for everything else... yeah well it is rather messed up. However if it makes you feel less creeped out they aren't really related.

The longest journey and dreamfall. Good storylines indeed. Sadly enough, a mate of mine has the ringtone of Zoe's phone as his ringtone (ie: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=GkCnvLgypJw), so fkn annoying

By the way, the third one is coming soon:

Awesome, except for the annoying bit with the pink tentacle/plant/maze thing to get the berries. Kind of like the cliffs in KQ3, except without the psycho wizard after you.

Zelda. Actually just finished playing Ocarina of Time again yesterday, probably the first time I've played it in 10 years but couldn't resist now that I can play it through component cables on the Wii in widescreen. Fighting Ganon at the end of that game just looks so cinematically awesome.

ROFL, yer the fkn berries.

I remember having so much trouble with the cliff in KQ3 and getting the berries when I was a wee kid. I went back to play the game a little while ago, it was sooo easy. I must have been an unco child.

I actually loved the backing story for the original Wing Commander. I know a few people have mentioned some of the later games which had much better developed stories, but I remember I used to read the WC manual over and over because it had such a great backing story/universe about it. A lot of those old Origin games had cool manuals with awesome universes.

Sweet I just found it here!

Yeah. Claw Marks had tons of backstory.

Sadly some jerks who claim to be professional writers tried to then go and write novels based on the WC universe which were as painful to read as most Fanfics, and had enough fetish fans buy them that the wcnews guys actually jumped onto the 'these=good' bandwagon :(

Prophecy had a ton of story stuff going on too regarding the Nephelim, even though they were trying to get back into gameplay not story.

Seriously though, how can you go past WC4?
- Tolwyns Black Lance blow up Confed ships with FlashPacks claiming to be Border Worlds
- Decorated captain and pilot switch to Border Worlds to help
- Border Worlds discover hidden massive starbase, steal Black Lance fighters
- Black Lance test Gen-Select Bioweapon on Telamon.
- Tolwyn brings out supercarrier Vesuvius to smash Border Worlds stuff.
- Stuff happens
- Creepiest end scene of a movie ever.

The remake of the movie in 2003 was a lot better than the John Wayne version. Have a look on IMDB.

NOLF2 had an awesome story and really well done into the gameplay. That game really sucked you into the spy thing. And it went for ages too. Not mention the character animation was far ahead of it's time (I think they used mocap). Very well done

The storyline in System Shock 2 wasn't bad at all.

Even more immersive when you installed the third party texture pack and eased up the settings where your guns would break every five minutes. Seriously, were the weapons made of balsa wood and styrofoam!?

Yeah, biggest complaint was the amount of whine from most of the ffx characters, although Auron and lulu made it worthwhile.

Imo, No.

NOLF 1 is one of my all time favourite games. The different voice actors/story just didn't do it for me in NOLF2. Got rid of cool elements like santas workshop etc.

I'd love to see a nolf 3 but.

No mention of Xenogears? I suppose it didn't actually ever get released in PAL format, so maybe a lot of people didn't play it.

I also loved Xenosaga. Awesome if you're cool with putting the controller down and watched for over an hour at a time instead of playing.

It should win longest and most confusing story, if nothing else, but it was also really sad, and kind of thought provoking.

I'd have to say KOTOR still had the best plot twist though, and FF& maybe had the saddest one.

I wish I had played Deus Ex, it's gotten a lot of mention here. I wonder if I have a copy? (has boxes full of games bought on whims and never played.) Too bad my only working PC right now is running linux.

I think Fahrenheit/Indigo prophecy had an awesome story for the first half of the game, worth checking out if you are a fan of adventure games in a modern setting. I think Quantic Dream have the right idea and their next game should be awesome.
