Considering getting ADSL (I've currently got wireless) a few of my friends have said that TPG is really bad for gaming, which is the main reason for me swapping, and Internode download limits are just too low for me. I've had a few people suggest Exetel, I can only get ADSL 1 in my area, any recommendations ?

iiNet are pretty good....have larger plans, and have a "gaming" line option.
Been playing some TF2 lately, and havn't noticed ping...at all.

I'm with TPG, and I do plenty of online gaming. It's fine. Wireless is really bad for gaming.

TPG does get laggy occasionally and what is important they do not have much in terms of customer service and support - which you think you don't need cos you're a pro, but rememeber they are a telco and their goal is to f*** you over so you sit there with no internet while you're still paying for it. Then they'll accuse you of owing them money - despite having authorisation to charge your CC, and when you try to email them about it you just get autoresponses saying "we will get back to you in 1 day" and then they never do. And talking to them on the phone is an Indian call center deal, very difficult to get s*** sorted out.
People will say "you get what you pay for with TPG" but I don't think that 60 bucks a month or whatever is trivial and means I should get such a raw deal. They most certainly do not warn you of their poor quality or suggest other companies are better, and they happily entice you to buy their service on the sides of buses, so IMO they are lying by omission!

Internode's omission on the other hand is failure to advertise the fact that they are awesome. Argh...

Yeah I'm going through broadband choice regret.

With TPG you get what you pay for, so it's no surprise you get reports of lag. Stability is not their priority.

40GB @ 1.5Mbps @ $70 is too low?

That's the Internode plan I'm on and thanks to all the freebie content (unmetered Steam content server, unmetered premium-bitrate radio stations, etc) I pull closer to 150GB in reality.

I think you're asking for too much, though. Pick any two:

1. High quota
2. Gaming stability
3. Low price

Yeah. We're on a 'rim' so that has stopped us from getting adsl1 till now. Pretty gay tbh.

I'm in similar boat, moved house a few months ago and found I was on a rim, bye bye adsl2+ hello adsl1....again. I am on 8mbit with 84Gb of downloads from Exetel (uploads not counted) $85pm. Funny thing is on ADSL2+ could only ever get 4.5Mbit speed due to line and exchange distance, since on ADSL1 got 8mbit rock solid.

Midda, what games do you play online? Do you play on internode servers? and what ping do you get?

I mainly play TF2 and Left 4 Dead. I have no idea what my ping is in Left 4 Dead, as all I see in my stats are three green bars, but I've never noticed any lag when I've been playing on Australian servers.

As for TF2, I usually sit on ~25ms for Internode and Gamearena servers.

I'm with iiNet Naked ADSL2+, I get pings of 20-70 depending on the server and my current ADSL setting.

Moving house and iiNet are charging me $150 to move, regardless if I stay with them or not.

So since Internode have a free setup option for 24months, I figure I'll give them ago. I gave iiNet heaps of chances to match them but they didn't so meh.

tequila is this the plan you are on? Do you need ABN?

Naked Business 3 100 GB Shaped Counted Static $124.90 /mo

Im with bigpond, where everything is good except for the price the $1/MB when u go over the cap. On 60GB plan which i think is 150/month but i threatened to leave them over some billing issues and and the best price i could get is $120/month. I have to ring up and get them to credit my account every 3 months for ~90 bucks.

I was always keen on the TPG 150GB but was worried about gaming pings.

Plus i pay ~25 bucks for line rental and i dont own a land line.

I live at the bottom of the reach of my exchange.. the best plan in the world isn't gonna help.

I'm seriously considering cable for pings

Interesting... TPG have some pretty elite looking plans quota-wise.

Currently on Optus cable power plan which is great for gaming, but capped at 15k up is lame and only 20/40gig is pretty easy to bust between myself and my bro.
Problem is the plans don't exist anymore so if I leave I ain't gonna be able to get it back.

Probably have another housemate move in the next 6 months who will be another equally heavy internet user. Was considering TPG for the sweet quota but perhaps not :/

So the general consensus is TPG for gaming = fail?

Well, that's not my opinion after being with them for about 3 years. Others I know on TPG don't seem to have any problems either. I can't speak for everyone else, but they've been as good as any other ISP I've been with in terms of latency.

You should be at 30k.
