GamesIndustry is reporting the BBFC (the UK ratings board) has allowed Platinum Games' forthcoming Sin City-inspired tear 'em up, MadWorld, an R18+ rating with no need for changes or censorship. The BBFC are well known for their stringent stance on maturity in games in the way of sex, drugs and violence and often stand as something of a precursor to how our own OFLC will react. Obviously the difference here though is in the existence of an R18+ rating in the UK and no such thing here. As a result, it's still not known whether the OFLC will let the game through unscathed, but given its over-the-top spin on all things bloody and the black and white comic book-esque visual presentation, we might just see the package in its intended entirety. MadWorld is due for release in Australia in March. We've contacted Sega to find out where the game is at in terms of making it through our strict game release gate so stay tuned. I will buy this game on day one if they release it untouched. But I have faith in the OFLC that they will touch it and get their fingerprints all over it.

Well, if worst comes to worst, at least there'll be an uncensored PAL version to import.

I saw this on the 'Coming Soon' stand at JB's.. it had the PEGI rating stamp on it though. Last I heard, Sega wasn't going to bother editing for places that have stupid ratings restrictions, so if the OFLC refuse it classification they'd just not bother. So I guess either JB's is planning on importing some if they need to or they're getting hopeful. |

If it gets a MA15+ rating, I'll be sure to file a complaint about it.

I find it hilarious how Ausgamers is so slow on reporting news like this, but so fast on reporting about rockband getting a new song.

Why is it hilarious? Publishers are quick to boast about new things like new content in their games, but they don't keep us updated every step of the way with things like classifications and we can't just sit around all day F5ing the classification database so we rely on things like forum communities, other gaming news sites and blogs and community news submissions for stuff like this.

I'm not seeing the hilarity. Dan, the OFLC website is very simple and the DB can be accessed all by GET variables. You could easily setup a cron job to scrape it daily and email yourself new content. |
