Working link.

I think this is going to end up like the UN. Lots of talk, little to no action on anything.

I wonder how long it'll be until underground internet pops up. With decent routers so cheap it's not hard to set up wireless repeaters & if you live in a tech savvy neighbourhood full of geeks & nerds then all the better.

I don't have a problem with censoring the internet, I have a problem doing it half-arsed. I think this is a decent first step though, classifying sites and actually setting up some publically available rules as to what is what makes sense. The only issue is that there are sooo many websites how is this going to work.

I reject the idea of classifying the internet it is not media outlet. Although it does act as a vessel for media but more importantly it acts as a vessel of information.

That would make an awesome futuristic b-grade movie, except its probably already been done.

haha, i remember bris mesh from about 7years ago. I got no issues with sensor ship. sites should volentary opt in. Post their url to a censorship db, with content meta tags. A central admin checks em and white lists them.

Browsers should have an option to only allow browsing to those sites / combination of content.

Would solve alot of issues with kids / schools / work etc.

somehow I don't think we'll be signing the petition to get Qgl classed as an 'R' page

If they are going to censor the internet they should publish exactly what and why. All this crap about kiddie fiddlers is a load of horse s***. They will use that argument to control even more aspects of our lives. It's the same bulls*** they pulled with terrorism, it appeals to the large number of mindless f***heads that I am forced to share my oxygen with. Anyone who puts trust into people like this is a fool. The world has never needed a revolution more in it's existence.

They claim that publishing the lists would effectively be distributing illegal resources. Makes sense legally, but that doesn't mean it should free of scrutiny or analysis completely or mandatory!

There should be very stricit, publically available guidelines as to what will be censored, the same way if you go to the OFLC you will see what MA is, M etc etc.

That is pretty much the problem with censorship on the internet, the majority of content is user created. QGL without posters wouldn't need a rating because it would have nothing on it. It's why online games aren't rated, you can make the tamest game in the world but you can't stop some f***stick from swearing his head of in a Pokemon game making some 6 year old kid ask his parents why Pikachu is calling him a s*** brain and what it all means.

If we really want to protect the children how about we just not let them use the internet until they are 18?

Internet Censorship is all about turning the net into a commercial retail business. All these Movie/Music/gaming companies can make a LOT of money if they can stop ppl sharing their products.
Tighten the net up and block all those sites that sell/giveaway/share stuff for free and they can charge whatever they want for their pitiful products.

That might be a side effect, but it's certainly not what they're trying to do. This is about mostly about useless politicians pandering to stupid minority interest groups that whine long and loud about bulls*** issues they don't understand - like the Internet.

There's this famous saying: "The Internet interprets censorship as damage, and routes around it."

I have a little plan for a brief article that explains how you can ignore all the Internet censorship stuff. Sneak preview: Google: Nullsoft WASTE.

thats pretty much correct faceman;

its only a matter of time, before the internet becomes fully comercialised, so big business can make moar money from it

Honestly, with all this talk of censoring and filtering and what not, the worst impact I can see it making on me (and a lot of others), is no more viewing 'advanced screenings' of TV shows right after they aired in their home country.

amirite?

No, because you can't filter peer 2 peer.

Well obviously porn sites would be pretty constant content wise and sites that sometimes post naughty stuff but no nude pics like qgl and it's no porn, warez or mp3s rule could be classed as PG or something.

Like Brismesh?

no

edit: wtf? I just read the rules for brismesh, it reads like some kind of illuminati conspiracy theory.
