I need to buy a present for someone, had to wait till now because steam doesn't allow you to specify a date to send a gift and now the steam store is down! >.<

It's likely the server is getting hammered by everyone trying to do the same thing as me.

It looks like they have put a 3% discount on everything, I wonder if this has anything to do with the increased load. It's still broken though.

Could have just filled in the appropriate To/From/Message details and sent the gift to your own email address, then forwarded it to that "someone" at the right moment.

That's what I'm saying, use the email version of the gift if there're problems. I couldn't buy any Steam games due to them declining my credit card, so I got a friend to send me it as an email-based gift and I just activated it on my account. The actual email gift is just a nicely laid out virtual card with a special URL that lets you activate the game.

I guess it's no use if you don't have their email address, but I'd like to think one has the email address of a person they are buying a gift for :)

im having a lot of trouble buying left4dead on steam. When entering credit card details it gives me this: "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."

Steam getting hammered?

I got that error when trying to purchase it through steam, so I just used Firefox to buy it instead. Worked fine, just had to restart steam once it was purchased.
