Hey there fellas, bought my copy of GTA IV last week and loving the game and graphics...but l'm hating the frame rates. I've done some research... Word from Rockstar say its a future game for future PCs ?? wtf ? anyway..l've also heard some stuff about inputting a commandine.txt file into your foler of GTA with some added lines others say add the lines to your shortcut, which I did and I don't see any FPS increases. My Rig: Q6600 2.4ghz o/c @ 3.0ghz 4GB Geil Ram 800mhz. Leadtek 8800GTS 640mb stock X-Fi Fatal1ty I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 280, but if its a coding problem..then its not woth it coz i can play any other game under the sun with great fps. current fps range from 15 - 40 Anybody have any suggestions ? |

have you patched it?
ensured the least amount of load on the PC while the game is running? |

yeah got the latest patch for vid driver and game itself. nothing runs...however i am using vista 32bit. but this is what i noticed when playing GTA4..when i hit s snagg / low fps area..i look my game panel and i see all 4 cores reaching around 80 - 90% load and memory is about 90% used?? what the hell man ?!@? no game i have ever played has gone anywhere near that and it gets even better....the core loads don't drop..they stay at that area...... |

i got 40+ fps with a 4870 on the in game benchmark thingy. in game fps is sweet but it slows a bit when stuff gets reeaally busy.
just using whatever settings it detected, 1600x1050, some med, some high. i wasn't using the latest drivers and it sucked ass, after i uprgaded it's been smooth sailing. last edited by taggs at 08:07:21 18/Dec/08 |

Update drivers (obviously)
Install .NET Framework 3 and .NET Framework 3 SP1. Reports are that it gives a bit of a performance boost. Turn off Clip Recording (in the 'Game' menu when you pause) should give you a bit of a fps boost aswell. |

I'm glad I waited for this game... saw it on my brother's pc for the first time tonite. it sucks seeing a new game run like ass on a s***-yeah computer, but GTA has often been one of those games that leads you to read videocard reviews while salivating. good work Rockstar |

someone messaged me with this.. it makes a bit of difference:
create a txt file called commandline.txt in the same folder your game .exe is in, and throw this stuff in there: -noprecache -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -novblank -percentvidmem 100 there's another setting for running the game in windowed mode, which does indeed run really well. I couldn't be arsed getting it to line up the the edges of my screen though. |
