there's a known problem with US connectivity - see whirlpool's bp whining forum.. apparently despite thousands of calls about it they still haven't updated their service status page with news of the problem, but it definitely exists

Is that page meant to show my ping? :/ I don't know how to "ping" a page.

If you're a BigPond customer experiencing the problem, CALL BIGPOND AND MAKE SURE THEY KNOW ABOUT IT. The more pressure exerted on their support department the faster it'll get fixed. Don't be a drone and just whine about it on whirlpool - until you're actually costing BP money in their support department you're not sending a message that you care about service.

Hmm, same with me. Currently dealing with the Indians who run telstra at the moment.

wtf I'm on an automated thingo now that is talking me through steps to try to work out why the internet is slow... how the f*** do I just speak to someone????

Well the successfully deterred me from complaining - I'm not sitting through 30 minutes of stupid "try unplugging this" bulls***.

You should just be able to say 'operator' or something - if that doesn't work read this

Yep, just say "Operator" - that'll hop you out of their automated system.

That system is dodgy anyway. After asking you to restart your modem and pc it says "When all four lights on your modem come on, say continue" which is impossible if there's an outage. It should ask if the lights have come on.

Tried that, then I was put on hold for ~10 mins with no dial tone or music, so I figured I got disconnected so I hung up.

Buy a speaker phone with off-hook dial. I have been on hold with Telstra for 2 hours once, but just happily worked away listening to their s***ty hold music. Damn I let the bastards know about it when they finally answered my call. I know the operator isn't to blame but it made me feel good, so it was worth it.

I had my phone on speaker phone sitting next to me while I was at the computer. If I had some sort of hold music or tone (to be sure I was actually in line for a representative) then I would have waited however long it took.
