These are awesome videos but I have to wonder if the sort of people that need this encouragement to vote will just vote for whoever someone tells them to vote for.

I thought it was the cool thing to do for celebrities to get behind Obama and bash McCain. I guess I was wrong...about a great many things.

i kind of get wat Rev is saying, there is an underlying bias towards Obama. I've noticed it in both of the videos.

I like how a country with a great opportunity to make change in the world, in the lives of everyone... everywhere, has to be convinced by a bunch of hollywood actors and the actual members of the people running for government, to take steps to voice their opinion... Really says something about the american perception of themselves and the world...

I think it's a good idea, telling people to vote. You all might be the kind who would normally want to voice your opinion and vote at any chance, but I am generally not, but just because I am lazy about voicing my opinion doesn't mean I don't have one. I think telling people to vote, and how important it is (quoting statistics about how just 500 votes made the difference last time) could definitely help lazy-assed people like me to get out there and voice their opinions.

Yeh, but having an opinion and being able to translate that into a vote for the person that is going to best represent your opinion is the hard part here. Having someone vote is at best sort of useless if they're voting blindly, and at worst its downright damaging.

The soundbite-driven media we have makes this even worse - if you watch the Daily Show at all its at first hilarious how many people off the street they interview that firmly believe Obama is a Muslim, either because of his name or because they heard some idiot say it as a fact. It's clearly not true - but now they might not vote for him for that bulls*** reason and not pay any attention to his policies.

I've often thought the same about Australian voting - I think when you go to the voting booth instead of them handing out idiot "how to vote" guides, they should be handing out WHY you should be voting for this person.

I think that's a not-for-profit waiting to happen, actually, and if I had some more spare time I'd definitely try and organise something like that for the next election - basically summary sheets showing all the candidates viewpoints on the major topics, summarised into a single sheet, handed out at the polling booths across the country as a last-ditch effort to educate voters.

I know for a FACT I would have used something like this in my past voting history - a lot of my voting has been blind or sent to minor candidates like the Greens whose policies I only understand in broad strokes (...who I also think are unlikely to win, so my ignorance will be less damaging).

I've heard them saying to bring as much ID as you can and they even recommend you bring a witness to vouch for you and all this nonsense which makes me wonder what their actual policy is. Sounds like it might be the same procedure you go through proving your identity to QLD Transport or Centrelink.

This is exactly the type of information I try to obtain from friends and family before I vote. However no matter who you ask, you're always going to get slightly biased information, even if it only comes through in what 'facts' are listed and which aren't. So while this is a great idea in theory, how could you be sure that the information sheet wasn't biased?

I think this is just another reason to have celebrities do these ad campaigns. Yes, sure, it's pathetic that American's might need a bunch of famous people from hollywood telling them what to do, but while this is the case, why fight it? If it works, and gets people voting, then why not? It seems less likely that people who couldn't care less are going to go to the effort of voting if they have no opinion anyway.

Well if I was doing it, I'd a) summarise their policies on the major issues, trying to get as many as I can fit on one those big wide floppy bad for the environment glossy pages they do, and then b) get it approved by the party before going to press so it's reliable.

It's all about trust though - obviously if you ask your friends/fam its because you trust their opinion on those sorts of matters. Obviously the best place to get clear information about their policies is from the parties themselves, so if you can find a reputable source on election day that summarises big issues clearly and concisely then you'll probably at least give it a glance.

The hard part is getting to that 'reputable' part though - people need to learn to trust it before they take it seriously. Although they seem to believe anything anyway so it probably wouldn't be too hard.

Of course, the other problem is the fact that they never keep election promises and policies change so maybe it's a waste of time anyway!@#

Yep, full disclosure is a must have and the entity running it must be politically neutral

I disagree, while I definitely felt the bias in the first video, I didn't at all in this one. I think you're just assuming it now because you know (the majority of) their affiliations.

It's very shocking and disturbing when you see these dumb rednecks at republican rally's being asked why they don't like Obama and then answering ..."because he's a muslim" or "It's hard to vote for him after 9/11".
