Blah blah, you all know the deal by now. The number this time is 11 Million subscribers.
Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. announced today that the subscribership for World of Warcraft, its award-winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), now exceeds 11 million players worldwide. This milestone was reached as the beta test for Wrath of the Lich King®, World of Warcraft’s second expansion, nears completion. Wrath of the Lich King will launch in several regions around the world starting on November 13, with Australia and New Zealand following soon after on November 14.
See you all again at 12 million.

I've always wondered if that's active subscriptions? I haven't played in ages, but I do have 2 accounts (that I'm not paying for). Is it possible that multiboxing thing is having an effect?

Alt / Mules would count as active subscriptions though.

If they're on separate accounts, yeah.

A lot of the accounts are Chinese though, who pay less per month and don't have to fork out for a retail box (I think).

This makes a big difference 'cos people tend to go apes*** over the expected monthly revenue figures (11M * 15 is a lot of greenbacks per month). Its still a s***load of money just not quite as big a s***load.

why can't this game just die!

so that's $165m A f***ING MONTH (it's still $15 to play isn't it?) in revenue and the f***tards won't even give you an Aussie server.

Why do you guys keep filling Blizzards greedy pockets!

Hey sweet rev. Is you got a website that specialises in various themed steins? Or was it a warcraft site?

Nice reverand. I got a Figureprint of my character for my birthday, going to be a long time before it gets here though, ordered it a month ago, goto get it shipped to my mate once its done, then he's shipping it to me (they don't do aus).

As mentioned above, you're using western pricing against the whole eastern & western playerbase. At least half the players in the 11M are Chinese - who pay a lot less to play.

Its still lots and lots of money, just not as zomg as you think. Also, 11M active players in a MMOG is a pretty staggering amount of bandwidth & hardware. You'd probably find that their outgoings eat up a big chunk of the revenue.

AT&T demand a large sum of the revenue to run the servers, on top of that I hear Vivendi take a large cut. Plus Blizzard would have several development teams running around the clock designing, creating and testing testing testing content for patches and expansions. Plus the 24 hour a day customer support and the people that develop and maintain the website and forums.

Look at it this way, even if they are making stupid amounts of cash, that doh will go into the production value of other titles like starcraft and diablo.

Also, lay off the game. I'm tired of hearing a minority whine about something they don't play.

They count active subscriptions only, but those numbers are skewed. The subscription model in Asia is very different. You basically pay in hour blocks.

That's not to say there aren't millions and millions playing it. Blizzard are currently running 229 US servers with most of them having between 10-38,000 active accounts.

The EU servers have a bit less than that, and china, well you can imagine.
