Like the recent Xbox 360 beta, Treyarch have now launched the public multiplayer beta for Call of Duty World at War on PC, offering up 3 sample maps from the forthcoming WWII era shooter. Registrations are open to everyone and not limited, so check out www.callofduty.com/beta for access.

PC gamers can now find the installer locally on AusGamers files.

Movement seems really stiff, instead of carpet bombs you get a mortar strike that seems a little too lengthy, chopper is replaced by dogs that kill you in two hits and now you can go prone. Everything else is pretty much COD4 in a WWW2 setting, in which I mean it brings nothing new to the table. I wouldn't leave cod4 for it.

Prone is retarded and annoying (Especially in COD4 with people dolphining around everywhere) and almost completely unnecessary in a multiplayer game imo. They could have at least had a reasonable delay on it instead of it being almost instant.

Choppers have been replaced by dogs? How are choppers and dogs anything alike?

They're not. You get like seven kills without dying and instead of calling in a chopper, you call a bunch of dogs onto the map that roam around. 2xp for killing one and they go down as easy as they do in cod4. They don't "grapple" or anything, they just need to hit you twice.

Apart from letting you hide like a fag in the grass or mashing the prone key randomly when you are getting shot at/run in to an enemy, what purpose does it fill exactly? Apart from requiring it to crawl through some walls on certain maps I can't think of any legitimate uses for it, especially considering it has almost no delay (if there was I wouldn't be too worried about it).

They're both really noisy.

prone makes you a smaller target on open surface and also allows a faster steady aim less recoil. and you can't bunny hop in cod4.

How long does it take you to drop to the floor in real life reso, honestly?

Made me laugh that EB is selling the PC WaW for $90 and CoD4 for $100 still.

I think prone is awesome but agree it's too often poorly implemented. There should be a time penalty in at least getting up, and probably one if you're moving while you go prone as you recover from the impact on the ground.

Sniping, baby, sniping! If the game has even half-decent shooting mechanics being prone should offer the best stability for long-range shooting. The tradeoff is, of course, total lack of mobility. I think it's an awesome system to have in a game, it just needs to not be implemented in a stupid way.

You'd have to ask CyberHULK.

I meant the actual animation and the draw time of that animation. And I wouldn't be too surprised if the hitbox's are buggy as while going prone as well, I bet they're half through the floor or 5 meters in the air.

They fixed gamershell, so it seems to be working fine again.

Krankit, I had that problem. I just signed up a different account with a different Email, got it in less then 10 seconds.

The game is OK. It suffers from a bit of jumpy jumpy go prone crap.

The Bolt action rifle is very underpowered when compared to the Thompson. The Thompson is easily the best gun in the game I've used so far. A quick jaunt on a server will show the same for many people, LOTS of people in the upper part of the scoreboard are using the Thompson.

The maps are pretty. Small though. The loading time is excellent. However in the end it is just another standard WW2 shooter.

Also, turns out I got the earlier key that I don't need. If anyone wants it PM me.
