Two new Duke screens have hit the net thanks to last week's release of Duke Nukem 3D via Xbox Live Arcade. The screens become available after all of the game's achievements have been unlocked and are a part of the title's Concept Art Gallery. Duke Nukem Forever has been in development forever, however, a trailer was released last year and the advent of these new screens (as well as the release of Duke 3D) should give rise to the concept that we may actually be seeing this game sometime in the not-too-distant future (hopefully). Is it just me or do all games now seem to have a thin coating of glad wrap over everything? I mean, I wouldn't exactly object to a stripper wrapped up, but hey.

why do textures in the quake engine always look so plastic?? Humf.....
God I hope the gameplay gives us something because so far, I'm not excited. |

I suspect it's not the textures, but has more to do with lighting and how hard edges are treated and where highlights are put. That could be a result of something equivalent to 'material properties' on the surfaces or just how the engine does it's lighting.
Hard to put your finger on it, but it doesn't seem right, does it? I notice some very very strong glaring highlights on objects that appear to be in dark areas, which only really happens on very lustrous things like a hard black dildo with vasolube all over it. |

They're using too much specular highlighting, that's what makes them look like plastic. Sub-surface scattering is what makes skin look realistic. That's why you don't see plastic-looking characters in Crysis.

There is no-way they could release Duke Nukem Forever and have it live up to the slow trickle of expectation that the centuries have built, it would literally have to be the best game to be released to date.
