The little software development department I help run for a large engineering consultancy is looking for a new developer.
Job Title: Analyst Developer
The Systems Development and Integration (SDI) team operates in an environment that is very much a fusion of Consulting and Technology. We are very client focused and specialise in quick turnaround of bespoke/custom solutions; anything from Excel, Access, Winforms, Web, using standalone or distributed architecture. Most solutions include a consulting component and each project has a varying degree of focus on the consulting and technology aspects.
Our core arenas are:
1) Program / Portfolio management solutions; and
2) Project Management solutions.
With the following emerging arenas:
3) Sustainability Tools; and
4) WebGIS.
We operate in a rapid application development environment suited to someone with a flexible style. A focus on delivering user functionality over and above technical sophistication is a must, and a keen eye for user interface design is important. Our development tools are primarily MS Access 2003, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 with a view to move to Access 2007 and Visual Studio 2008 within the next 6-12 months.
• We are looking for someone with a solid grounding in commercial software development and a person who can work autonomously in a non-structured environment with experience delivery products from start to finish.
• You will be able to wear different hats: as developer, as analyst as client facing consultant (if requested).
• You will possess excellent communication skills and be as comfortable developing solutions as you are engaging with clients and gathering requirements.
Key Skills/Experience:
1) VB.Net Windows Forms & ASP.NET 2.0 web programming
2) Web Services architecture
3) SQL Server 2005 database
4) Crystal Reports / SQL Reporting Services
5) Javascript / AJAX
6) Desirable: Construction / Engineering industry and WebGIS
You would be working with a small team and need to be able to operate without much direction much of the time (as we're out and about finding new clients). This would be a good job if you're looking to get into analysis or project management as we would encourage development in these areas.
