quake 1-3 gave me some amazing hours. q1dm, q2dm+ctf and q3dm, ra and promode made me acheive 3 seconds of thought in 1 second. I felt alive.

now quake 4 is here... and i've finished watching some high res movies of the finals in america/germany and finally thought i should get back into the fast past action of a quake engine and out of the rpg/mmo's that i was drawn to when q3 player numbers, server numbers and high latency capped my increase and eventually let it drain dry.

I downloaded a few programs trying to find what the quake 4 servers are like in australia (anying <100ms) and it looks horrible. I managed to find <50 servers with only 1 player online. Is this for real?

Is quake dead?

Where are all our 3seconds per 1seconds of real life players gone? Those poeple that could track the traj of 5 grenades spamming through a room, the reload timer on two oponates rail guns and also predict the flight paths of three memoriesed rockets in a virtual map in their brain all in the matter of 1 real life second?

please people... speak... talk... share what you know with me... let me find my gaming happy again.

They got old, lost their reflexes and started playing mmorpgs because anyone with a heartbeat can play them and be adequate.

i have the utmost respect for tf2 (dont have a bad thing to say about it) but its still not as fast paced as quake engines are. so quake is dead?

Quake 4 was awful... like ET QW. Sure that massive patch might have made it a little better but it was far too late.

I can see quake live doing pretty well, being free and the fact that it should run ok on most pc's.

I'll be into it when it comes out.

it's about time quake3 should become a free download anyway.. Q4 couldn't suck any harder.. Quake1 CTF on the powerup/XTRA NZ CTF servers really brings back memories though.

3dee, like what? where have all the hardcore, face paced action fps'ers gone?

every game i look at from tf2 to ut looks like a slower fps then q1-3. I'm curious when i see fatal1ty and various other world champs playing about just how they train if Australias FPS deathmatch scene is as dead as theirs. I'm guessing it's not.

hello ScorP'RD

this is fus1on'rd from back in the ra2/ra3 days

yeah i wish there was still the same size community for ra4 as there was in ra2.

quake is dead.

was playing wow hard as a shaman/rogue have all the best items in the game etc. but about 2 stop for warhammer if the fkn thing will load :) and play some tf2 every now and then only fps i play.

hopefully quake 5 talks to the kids and gets them back :)

hey fus1on, mate its been too long. i still dont think i ever got my rail accuracy above 30% like you did, only 28% :(

well i'm up for some q4 dm tonight if you read this in time, i'm sure there is a vaiable that will allow you to join my server (sorry its hosted on adsl2+ - best i can do!) without a legit key if you have the game?

i'm kinda glad i didnt buy q4 today, although this thread has been pretty moderated considering the usual flaming that goes on in this forum i can see now that the responcers, albeit a little positive are still reflecting the state of quake (very fast based fps) in austrlia.

spook i highly doubt that, some of the highest accuracies i ever saw was about 32-35%. we're talking the high end games here mate over a very long sample span. not 10 rails vs a nub that is moving at normal run speed, in a predictable way.

screw quake, bring back beta 1.4 of cs

actually i remember cs early version... where the recoil of the gun wasnt a random x/y of your crosshair and expanded the longer you fired...

the recoil was a quarter circle arc from your gun, so skilled players could keep the bullets landing in the same place.

it was awsome, you also had to tell the hostages that they were free once you got them over the line, i thought that was awsome too.

there also wasnt as many guns that could shoot through walls and stuff, i thought that was better too.

it all went down hill form there really. sigh. less skill and more spammy, not to mention the 'storm the bunker' maps like the one where you could drive an apc to the enemy 'car park/mountain bunker' was removed. sigh.

ah quake 2

I was addicted to powerup q2 ctf, then got addicted to action quake 2 on the HIS TDM Server (eisa aq2 was for noobs)... and then got addicted to rocket arena 2 on the qgl server...

the good old days!!!
(played q2/ra2 under Lithi0s, action quake as ^re@per^ or something else equally stupid)

Nothing has approached that for me... tf2 was close.. same as zombie mod for COD4.. but still nothing beats quake2 :)
