After much waiting around, my rig is finally ready to jump.
VSE Infinity container/harness Performance Designs - Sabre2 170ft main canopy Performance Designs - Reserve 160ft Cypres2 AAD http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8805/rig002tv2.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8154/rig003ow8.jpg http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8689/rig001wm8.jpg Ended up costing me $6.5k. Hopefully the Sabre2 doesn't put me in a wheelchair :O Otherwise fits like a glove and is super light, all the flaps and covers are bomb proof and setup for freefly. Should be fun :D |

6.5k?!Yep, it's rape. All the other gear is easily $1500... helmets, altimeters, jumpsuits. The 9 jump AFF course costed me $2000, probably spent another $2000 on top of that since (jumps were costing $80, $40 to altitude / $40 gear hire). It's f***off expensive, very addictive though. At least from now on I get $45 jumps to 14,000ft so I can go every weekend. |

looks wicked dude.Takes me between 10 - 15 minutes, this one possibly longer since it's my first zero-porosity canopy and they're impossible to bag up, slippery and hard to get the air out. Bonus? They fly WAY faster then F1-11 canopies and lands with a lot more power. costed me my dadBeen working 6 days a week at Post, all mine ;) U so better not get Austudy. As above, they cut off my Centrelink months ago. |

There's definitely a learning curve to zero-p, but the extra speed just means a stronger flare on landing... basic physics, more speed, more lift when you angle the wing.
The Sabre2 is semi-elliptical too, going to absolutely spin up like a motherf***er. Taking it out to Toogolowah this weekend for full altitude hop n pops, deploy straight out the door at 14,000ft... good 20 minutes of thrashing around the canopy in clean air. |

chub.. i hope tou repacked it right before your first flight... would be a shame if you didnt post anymore cause your 'new shoot' failed
also yes.. scuba.. i spent about 3.5k on decent gear.. and the chance of freefalling to my death is a lot more limited... although i can always pull a lonigan and snag the innsurance moneys |

chub.. i hope tou repacked it right before your first flight... would be a shame if you didnt post anymore cause your 'new shoot' failedParachutes WANT to open, some people trash pack them and stuff them in the bag in a mess of s*** and they come out fine. This opening should be buttery smooth, ~1000ft / 5+ seconds. You always have a reserve, that has to be packed by a Master Rigger (takes them ~2 hours), Brett who packed it has been in the sport for 33 years and has 15,000 jumps. Also inside your reserve is a Cypres2 AAD, $2000 computer... measures your altitude / speed 30 times a second. If you're over 78mph (either still in freefall or a massive canopy malfuction) at/or below 750ft (5 seconds to impact) it has a pyrotechnic cutter attached to your reserve closing loop and it automatically opens your reserve container. http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/2606/rigbd7.jpg |

Where do you suggest I do it here in aus? Rough price for a first timer? You can do a tandem for ~$300-$400 at any of the major dropzones or the beach dropzones are quite good. Redcliffe is a very experienced mob, most of the guys there have 5000+ jumps, Cookie the chief instructor makes carbon fiber skydiving helmets... very nice ;) http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/1381/cookie003br5.jpg Sunny Coast skydivers are good too, they take off at Caloundra. Ramblers also have a beach dropzone at Coolum. I would definitely go for AFF Stage 1, it's risen in price due to fuel lately, around $450 - $500. My home dropzone is Caboolture Skydive, we are a student/fun jumping facility, no tandems. http://www.skydivecaboolture.com/images/longpic_aff.jpg ~6 - 8 hours of ground training and you get to do your first jump with 2 AFF instructors, monitor your altitude, fly your body and deploy your canopy. Then you fly down with the help of chief instructor via radio. Definitely worth the extra $100, million times better. Plus everyone gets addicted and comes back :D Every jump gets better in AFF, in a few jumps you will be throwing 360's, backflips and tracking across the sky... tandem you're just a drongo strapped to someones chest and he's doing all the flying. last edited by CHUB at 07:42:44 19/Sep/08 |
