We're rapidly closing in on the crucial holiday period, a time when publishers inundate the average punter with almost too much choice. We did a quick site reccy and came up with
20 games releasing from today (9/11) through to the end of the year likely worth spending hard-earned money on. So, as a one-stop spot for you to peruse, we've compiled a list with details of said 20 games, as well as links to our official AusGamers game pages for each.

But we've also addressed the idea that maybe too much of a good thing is difficult to swallow. When you're clamming out around a hundred bucks per game, is it really fair so many are released in such a short time? You be the judge. Hit this link for the full list, and don't be afraid to exploit the hard work we put in linking all relevant information and media for each game.

My top 5 list I'm hanging for is...

1. WoW - Lich King
2. Farcry 2
3. Left For Dead
4. Call Of Duty - World At War
5. Fall Out 3

Also, BF - Heroes looks like it could be an ass-load of fun as well!

EDIT: And for console definitely Guitar Hero World Tour

little big planet looks interesting. That star wars game could be ok - demo was fun.

Left for dead will be the absolute shizbomb.

Having read a full review on The Force Unleashed I can say that I'm looking forward to it.

88/100 is respectable, if only just missing the mark of gold.

We'll have our review of TFU up shortly as the game arrives today. Looks like my weekend is pretty full :)

Where are all these games on the list you claim are worth buying? I don't see any. I see LEGO Batman, mayyyyybe PoP and Lich King... that's about it.

@Raven

Man, you must have picked the three of those titles that I really didn't care for that much. I checked out almost all of these games at PAX, and mini-review follows:

I went to the Ubisoft demo to check out PoP (cause I loved the latest trilogy). It looked tired, repetive and over the top (you can fly through the levels using these retarded launch pads and you can magically double jump). Far Cry 2, however, looked awesome. It was demoed how he decided to assault some random camp, so he set some fires upwind of the campsite, and it confused all the enemies. The whole game is immersive and very dynamic.

Left 4 Dead looked the most fun out of everything I saw, a true co-operative experience. Fallout 3 is a must-buy - the game world is so rich, the characters detailed and the use of action points integrated into FPS/TPS style actually worked awesomely. My favourite part was when he fired a 'railway sleeper' into a dudes mouth, decapitating him and pinning his head to the wall behind.

Mirror's Edge actually seemed fun and dynamic, but very linear. LittleBigPlanet is simply beyond description, it has the potential to really jet the PS3 forward. It looked like so much fun, my wife yelled to the Executive Producer, during the demo, "WHEN CAN I BUY THIS GAME!?!?"

Most of the other games on that list were there, but didn't really capture my attention. I'll end up picking up GH:WT (or perhaps RB2, but I'm leaning towards GH).

I'm through with my time playing FPSes which are basically the same thing with the same physics and goals and slightly modified weapons, and no real fun. Not to mention the need to upgrade your system every time one comes along that you want to play.

I'm surprised no one is talking about Mirror's Edge, I hadn't heard about it till I saw this rundown and now I have to say I'm pretty damn pumped for it. Not only does it look heaps of fun (like an FPS version of the awesome free running stuff in Assassin's Creed) with great atmosphere, but it's always exciting to see someone trying to bring something new (ie. not just killing) to a first person action game.

Also, LittleBigPlanet could be cool but I don't know if it will hold my attention, have to wait and see I guess!

I support and endorse this comment, I would like to see all future fps games banned, and we all go back to playing Quake, and possibly a little bit of Quake2 RA1 with 32 players :)

That is all

I can understand if you said Quake 3 but Quake1/2? You have some serious nostalgia problems.

Have a look at Mirror's Edge, an FPS where you don't have a gun..

My top 5.

1. Fallout 3
2. Dead Space
3. Mirror's Edge
4. Left 4 Dead
5. Battlefield Hero's

I'd have Fable 2 in the mix if it wasn't 360 only.

Pffft, Mercs2 is fine. The reviewers just have bees in their bonnets.

Seriously if you liked Mercs, then Mercs2 will be your kind of game. If you prefer WiiFit, then Mercs2 probably isn't the game for you.

most game reviewers spend their career trying to speak for the masses when writing. mercs2 is, objectively, as terrible a game as the reviews are suggesting and what you're experiencing is known as post-purchase rationalisation.

I read the 1up review of mercs 2 (cos its one of the few places I even bother reading reviews anymore), and they said even while its got a few bugs its ridiculously fun and theres lots of stuff to blow up. And really, thats the point of mercs, blowing stuff up. Blowing stuff up in the first mercs game was really, REALLY fun and some of tools you had at your disposal to to make things explode were extremely cool, so I'm tempted to get mercs 2 if its just more of the same taken to up a notch :)

Only got a hold of Mercs 2 on Friday, but from the little bits I've played so far it seems pretty good.

I never played the original Mercs but it reminds me of Just Cause.

Also the pc version of mercs 2 looks especially half arsed, bugs, poor resolution support, some people say its a port of the ps2 version.

Yo Steve, thanks for keeping me in the loop, there are about 15 games there that I am dying to play. Looks like it is time to mooch of my gaming buddies...again.

Don't really understand the Mercs 2 bad reviews. I have played it quite a bit and am happy for the mindless, easy to follow storyline. Read somewhere that physics is dodgy - I have never seen better physics in such a large environment, barrels, vehicles, buildings, everything is destroyable - considering that fact the physics is amazing.

My one complaint is the shooting is crap for rifle/pistol type weapons. There is absolutely zero skill in it. You aim at the enemy and bullets go everywhere but. If they did that properly and made the AI a bit trickier I think the game would be a hit.

However, hijacking, calling support for just about anything, never leaves you stranded in a large world without transport, yeah, it's a good game and there's a lot to experience before you are bored.
