During a chat with the Associated Press, Cryptic Studios chief creative officer, Jack Emmert, revealed much about the anticipated - risen from the ashes - Star Trek-themed MMO, Star Trek Online. He explains that players will begin the game as a young officer aboard a Starfleet ship or a Klingon ship and that you will be able to customise your character to any number of famous Star Trek races. He goes onto talk about exploration in the game stating "You'll venture through space exploring new civilisations and life-forms. You'll also beam down to planets and have adventures inside your ship. It's a galactic-wide game. There's going to be tons of space to investigate. We have a great system for exploration, which will allow for almost infinite possibilities." We have the first in-game footage of Star Trek Online, which was unveiled only a few hours ago at the annual Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. You can grab it here. Otherwise check out all other media from our Star Trek Online game page. |

Hmm, visually its a bit bright and bubbly for me, but I guess that's sort of keeping true to the Star Trek look and feel. Some of the scenes look good - I really like the idea of full on space battles where you have guys beaming back and forth between ships that are duking it out in space - be awesome if there were epic multi-hour-long space battles happening while you were fighting pitched gun battles inside. |

Looks damn awesome but how does it work? In space is it like Homeworld-style controls and walking around would it change to something like WoW/AoC?

I supose you would have various space-craft, think of them as "player mounts" in MMO terms, some of the mounts might be piloted by players with nessisary skills, others by NPC's. In many Earthbound MMO's players can hitch rides on large ships, so this might not be so much differant except that the ship is also a playable area. One might imagine they use some instancing technology to manage that. I should prove interesting. |

Seriously, you don't wanna f*** with the Borg. If you're out in space and you see them coming you better run. OK???
