Ubisoft have today let gamers anticipating the release of Far Cry 2 know exactly what sort of specs they should be running in order for the title to be playable on their machines. It's a pretty good idea given how many people were likely not ready for what Crysis ended asking of you, so o now might be a good idea to start saving for all the bits and pieces you need to play the game when it's released later this year.

Minimum requirements: (as given to us directly from Ubisoft)
  • CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, Pentium D 2.66 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ or better.
  • Video card: NVIDIA® 6800 or ATI ®X1650 or better.
  • Shader Model 3 required.
  • 256 Mb of graphic memory.
  • Memory: 1 Go.
  • Media reader: DVD-ROM.

  • Recommended:
  • CPU: Intel® Core 2 Duo Family, AMD®64 X2 5200+, AMD® Phenom or better.
  • Video card: NVIDIA® 8600 GTS or better, ATI®X1900 or better.
  • 512 Mb of graphic memory.
  • Memory: 2 Go.
  • Sound: 5.1 sound card recommended.
  • Media reader: DVD-ROM.

  • Supported Video cards:
    NVIDIA® 6800, NVIDIA® 7000 series, 8000 series, 9000 series, 200 series. 8800M and 8700M supported for laptops. ATI® X1650 – 1950 series, HD2000 series, HD3000 series, HD4000 series. [sic]

So, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, apparently. FarCry 2 is due to release later this year on PC - you can view all available AusGamers media from our FarCry 2 game page.

and in the end the game itself wasn't worth what people reportedly spent to upgrade in order to play it.

I hope they actually complete development of the game this time round, unlike Crysis.

The worst part is that the recomended specs are usually a far better representation of what the minimum should be.

Still, they're not all that lavish.

my understanding is that 'recommended' specs should play the game on medium detail settings @ 30fps.

That's fine because everyone knows your eyes can't see above 30fps.

far cry multiplayer (the assault mode) is HELL fun. Some of my most enjoyable gaming has been playing 6v6 far cry assault matches. Just a pity they didnt put more effort into the server support.

I wonder if the protagonist in this game will be wearing a hawaiian shirt again. Nothing says camo better than a bright coloured shirt.

Better have good gameplay. Im over the graphics side of things these days.

Already did the gfx thing with Farcry. If anything Left 4 Dead will have good gameplay. Far Cry 2 just looks like another generic shooter. Sure if the nano suit was all right. But other than that.

Its is like they're trying to create: realistic shooter with time bending technology; with sprinting; with driveable vehicles; with zicca laser weapon.

UT3 was all right though. Just.

I know Crysis was developed by crytek/Published by EA.
But who developed Farcry2? Is it the same knuckleheads that did Crysis?

Im scared on what this game will bring to the table. The dev's seem to be more focused on "you will s*** your pants" graphic's then gameplay. though we will see... other than that the AI in farcry was stupid! hope that improves this time around.

My PC will be struggling to run it anyways. hopefully my X1650 will do it.

p.s it appears that crytek are taking a new approach to the development of thier games, linky > WTF!

probaby just a rumour but somewhat exciting nonetheless...

Yeah, it's (afaik) the same team that did the Far Cry Instincts expansion at Ubisoft Montreal.

Crytek, the guys behind the original Far Cry went on to develop Crysis and are currently working on Crysis Warhead.

ahhhk.. thats good then, ubi'll know what to do...
I didnt play the instincts expansion (not PC is it?). and I probs wont play warhead, it looks like the same repetitive s*** as crysis (the trailers almost look identical to the first).

lol! it is ancient compared to the 4850. The card was released around circa 2006, so its not a bad card. I grabbed one because MSY were selling them for $87. Its a HIS X1650 pro with Ice-Q s*** (heatsink). not directX 10 but it's a directX 9 card with 512mb of memory. I got that card because I still cant be bothered to upgrade to PCI-X ;).

When the benchmarks come out for Farcry2 I'll see how they go... :D

    P3 700mhz
    196mb Ram
    10gig hard drive
    64mb gfx card

I bought it early in 2000 off of Steven O'Donnell (Bajo) when he worked for Sunlit/Compugate at Toombul Centro.
