Cryptic Studios have announced they're now working on Star Trek Online, the (always inevitable) MMO set in the famous Trekiverse. The press release contains barely any information other than the first trailer will be available on the 10th of August, but the about page on the newly launched official site has these details:
Adventure in the Final Frontier: Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations in an expanding vast universe. Make contact with alien races, discover resources and uncover mysteries that will change the future of the Star Trek universe.

You Are the Captain: Command your own starship as a Federation Captain or a Klingon Warrior. Outfit it with the systems that you need to make your mark in the galaxy. Customize your ship as you see fit. Recruit, train and mold your crew into an elite force for exploration and combat.

Surface, Shipboard and Deep Space Adventures: Command your vessel in thrilling space battles, or beam down to planets with your away team for face-to-face confrontations. Missions will take you and your friends into space, planetside and even inside starships!
It is apparently coming for both PC and consoles. A bunch of new screenshots are available as well.

Your request is not logical.

Meh, don't tease me Cryptic. Bad enough Perpetual made a massive hash of things. At least Cryptic has the City of Heroes/Villains franchise to back their achievements in MMO development, so it'll be worth a look.

It's quietly in development, but I'd be willing to bet money that it turns out to be s***.

Who cares? You can't really compare the two; Firefly is some seriously average television. While a solid Star Trek game probably couldn't put a dent in WoW numbers, it certainly has more of a chance than a lot of other brands out there, Firefly included.

Firefly is average. Generally its fans are newbies who have never seen a good sci-fi series.

If you want to see good sci-fi, can't improve much on the epic-ness and multi-seasonal story arcs and insane character depth and development in Babylon 5. Even though it's well over 10 years old, it still owns.

No, not even BSG comes close ..

Babylon 5 is awesome, I've seen heaps of Sci-Fi. Firefly and great, I also like Farscape and Lex tho.

I wouldn't really call Firefly 'sci-fi' :)

So how does beaming down to planets work? You level up depending on how many ensign security officers get killed by aliens?

I know, normally if a show ends after one or two series it means it was really good, but in this case... bleeeeuuhhhhh. So much potential squandered making it into a western in space.

I'm not a Trek fan and obviously don't care about MMOs but I'm definitely intrigued to see how this one pans out.

Hopefully they will learn the lessons of AoC and have plenty of quality mid to end game content.

Thanks god Cryptic is on the case. I am pretty confident these guys will make a good MMO. Will it please the trekkies? Probably not.

First problem ... solar panels on space stations?

All space stations in the ST universe are fusion powered.
