Was this the place that just got renovated? Or is this the joint across the road from the one getting renovated and had kind of an outside beer garden?

Haha holy s***. If that ever happened at the Regatta, anyone downstairs in the dungeon area would be dead in seconds. RE has only a couple of staircases to upstairs, but I guess you could easily jump out the window and climb down the roofing over the deck.

heh, the victory beer garden used to be great when i worked in central exchange on elizabeth st. in telecom. decent food for a decent price & good atmosphere. went to crap in the mid nineties when the suits took over & we weren't allowed into the beer garden with work boots on. ffs. so i guess 'diaf' is appropriate.

i've been hearing that there's a development application for a multistory office building on that lot for a while now.

anyway, i might walk down there now and see what an improvement the fire made to the place.

Do you really think they would intentionally burn the place down while it is full of people?

You worked at Edison? How long? I was there for a week and every time I stepped out of the elevators I felt like I was walking into the nuthouse from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

yeah i was in there last night, there was smoke everywhere and that excuse for a stair case didn't make it easy to get out. i don't know where it started but there was smoke all through the place upstairs and down, and once we were outside there was a heap of smoke coming out of the roof.

RIP, Victory. The bear garden was always a great place to spend a Friday afternoon after work. People who hate on the Vic are just pretencious f*****s who have never actually spent any time there. Most of the staff there are pretty cool people, I hope they all manage to find new jobs ok.

i've been hearing that there's a development application for a multistory office building on that lot for a while now.

I doubt it, I was told the building was heritage listed.

^ The Vic was the place to go for live music. Neither Union Jacks nor Port Office have any bands (UJ only ever has a solo artist, if anything).

I think it'll be The Brewhouse, O'Malleys & Irish Murphies seeing the gain.

We played Irish Murphies last night & our guitarist told the crowd IM was the place to be as "...the only other place worth going to burnt down this morning...". Cue big grins from security.

Oh yeah it sure is, most of the bogans left before the bands played though, we had to wait for the footy to finish before we could play, after that it was just people there to see the bands. Was hoping some of the bogans would hang around so we could pay out on them when we played.

Heres some footage from saturday night.

never had to see that - but seeing someone pissing in the basin regularly was a turn off for the place.

from vivid memory, there's a place just up the road where some of society's elite do it just the same as I recall. I should know - I once had the task of cleaning up after the executive level messes some people made when they're off their tits.

man I hated end-of-year school breakups. so few people realise that so many of our society's greatest misses come from the highest level.

haha NF you are awesome. comeback king of QGL.

OT: yellow, are you joking? The vic has to be one of the s***tiest club/bar places in the city. Heck I would even prefer to go to a bar in redcliffe on a Saturday night than there.
I went there once and it was s***house. Granted during the day it may have been alright but come on. There's at least 20 better places to go in the city on a Friday/Saturday night than there that is not full of f*****s, like the vic was.

Why do you guys all bag a place you most likely have been to before and will go back to once it re-opens.

Even though the place was and will continue to be a haven for bogans. I bet most of you have been there and gotten legless before, and will do so again.
